Cd rom not working but it can read dvd

Hi

I have installed windows xp pro in my laptop.after that when i insert CD into my laptop's disk drive, it does not read it shows blank cd./but......when i insert dvd then it opens and see the content.plz help me how to read the cd ??is it some software driver problem?

The CD & DVD functions use a different laser so the CD one is faulty, a CD cleaning disk may fix it otherwise you need a new drive.
