I'd go with the P4. The reason I say that is because I don't think you know what you're doing, and you're less likely to get a crap board with the P4. Of course you might be getting a good board or bad board with either CPU, but since you didn't say anything, I'm having to guess.

Do not get that P4. If you must have Intel, get the P4c. The extra cache is an attempt to make up for extra pipes. It doesn't work. The P4e 2.8, with 1 meg cache is hotter than the P4c 2.8, but does not perform as well.

What will you be using your puter for?

Gaming A64. For the other things you listed P4.

Did you see you're putting pc2700 RAM in a motherboard/proc combo that's designed around a 200 mhz FSB, and thus PC3200 RAM is needed for it to realize full pontential. Also, I would be concerned about that PSU, don't know if it's a quality 350, or a piece of crap that can only really do 200.

Wow, I also didn't notice the ram or the prices you are paying. $260 for the a64 2800+ is crazy. I got mine for almost 80$ less and it was retail! If you live in the us go with newegg. Cause them prices are way too high. The graphics card is overpriced also.

As for the ram, I'm looking at my options, and I have a choice of

OCZ DUAL CHANNEL OPTIMIZED 2X512MB DDR PC2700 CAS2 W/ BLACK HEAT SPREADER
for $381.53

or

OCZ DUAL CHANNEL OPTIMIZED 2X512MB DDR PC3200 CAS2 W/ COPPER HEAT SPREADER for $368.38

I'm guessing the 3200 would be the better choice?

The Athlon 64 2800 performs like a Pentium 4 3.0GHz EE.
It may cost you more than the Pentium, but it is well worth it.
