Why Intel and AMD

cost at market share is my guest.

it would cost a ton of money for R&D to catch up to ati and nvidia...

and then when they do, its somewhat of an economic rule that there can be competition by only 2 parties in a large market. so amd and intel probably would be beat by ati and nvidia just because they're the two heavy standers.

Intel makes (made?) the i740 video chip. It's probably still available somewhere for some application, but mostly it was a developement bed for their integrated graphics.
