HP Scanjet 3970. Problem

i get this messege when i scan any object

Uninstall the scanner from the system, uninstall the software with it. Download latest drivers and software from HP, try again.

I just went through this with a 3970 at work. Tried reinstalling the driver, tried moving it to to the PC where it had worked before, and nothing. We scrapped it. . .
