PLEASE HELP ....

Hello,
my son has a HP desk top. windows XP 7. The sceen is frozen , the mouse or the keyboard does not respond...the system seems not to be able to reboot , although it does turn on and off with the manuel switch. its just frozen. has it crashed ? can I do anything myself to fix it ? or do I have to take it somewhere to get it fixed ?

I would try and get into Safe Mode by pressing the F8 key repeatidly as it is booting-up. If it lets you into Safe Mode, try doing a Windows System Restore to an earlier date when it worked.
