Rca s2501a. dead or frozen?

Hello, I have been successfully using this RCA S2501a model mp3 player for quite some time. It was totally fine until just now, I tried creating a new folder on it (i use it as a storage device too). It froze and I decided I should unplug it and it would be fine, the computer seemed to suggest that to me too.

Anyway it froze. Sort of.

Now windows cannot detect whether the mp3 player is plugged in or not, and so i cant even reapply the firmwire or erase and reformat it.

On top of that, I can still turn the player on and off, but it doesnt progress past the loading title. It automatically turns on when hooked to the computer too, as though it DOES detect it and is being stupid with me.

Does anyone have any ideas or advice? Is there a very secret small 'hard reset' button to push for example, or a certain way to make windows recognize it? At this point I'd be fine with erasing and reformatting it so I can at least use it still.
