I think they don't want to give away "Athlon" brand name for less money.

They probably also want people to get Sempron over Athlon XP. It's like when Intel starts to sell lower speed CPU at the price of faster CPU, to "force" people upgrading their lower offering. This help speeding up the transition to faster model.

It's tricky to use words like AMD or Intel in a signature some users could think your are biased.

So, that's equal to marketing trick :-&

Kind of stupid movement ... so "new" CPUs sell for less? So are worse than Athlon XP?

Sometimes too complicated to undertand straigth ahead ... silly brain creations ...

Still looking for a good online retailer in Spain :frown:

No that stupid. The new Sempron will necessarly be much slower than AXP at the same price. Before complaining too much, we should wait and see how this will translate in price/performance charts. AMD knows they can't raise the price too much on mostly outdated CPU. If the AXP price goes up, it will not be much and, I'm pretty Sempron will fit really well with the new pricing. They will probably have an edge over the AXP and everyone will be happy!

- Low-cost AXP will still be there.
- Sempron will stole high-end AXP sales.

AMD don't have tons of FAB, so the longer they keep the AXP line, the longer they don't make A64 in the FAB that is actually making AXP.
