Would it be worth it to upgrade from a P4 2,5GHz to an AMD 3200+? I use this computer mostly for gaming and, to a much smaller extent, for some image editing.
If you mean Athlon XP 3200+ (performs like a P4C 2.8GHz), no it's not worth it. But, if you talk about Athlon 64 3200+ the upgrade would be interesting, but not necessary.
What is your video card? This might be better to get a faster GPU, because your CPU is fast enough for most today's games.
Question : P4 2.5GHz do you mean 2.533GHz (P4B 2.533GHz with FSB @ 133x4=533MHz)?

It's tricky to use words like AMD or Intel in a signature some users could think your are biased.
IMO is a waste of money on new mobo+CPU. And taking unto account how games stress GPU, another vote for: New GPU! (well, depends on what you have right now )
Still looking for a good online retailer in Spain
And now for a contrary vote, with some conditions.
1 Must be to A64 3200+
2 You must have someone to sell your old mobo, ram and chip to.
3 You must already have a 9800pro or better video card.
4 Your current mobo can not support 800 fsb.
If your mobo supports 800 fsb, get a 2.8c and overclock it.
If you have a slower video card, check out the BBA 9800pro at http://shop.ati.com/tradeup.asp
If you sell your present setup, you should be able to recover half the cost of the upgrade. That makes it a good deal.
Your chip uses a 133/533 fsb setup. On that fsb, you would need a 3.6 chip to match the a64. That says you are looking at an upgrade equivalent of 1.1 gigs, 11/25ths, or 44%. Seems okay to me.
And now for the contrary contrary vote. The A64 is still blazing fast with a 9600XT card. Yea, get a 9800Pro if possible, but a 3200 CPU or better foremost! You can always upgrade your Vid card later!
