Question about the kickout from the safe hole in Sopranos.
The ball passes very close to the lower jet bumper, as it goes over to
the right side then dribbles out.
Should the jet bumper fire, as the ball is near it, or not?
If it fires, then the ball will spend a lot of time in the bumpers, and
it will be like Dracula where you spend a lot of time just waiting for
it to come out of the bumpers.
If it doesn't fire, then you get what I typically see now: a slow
boring dribble out the right side.
So it's kind of a lose-lose situation. I'm curious what the intended
setup of the game is: after being kicked out of the safe into the
bumper area, should it bounce around in the bumpers, or just dribble
out the right side?

Power off, adjust the points so a ball hit fires it, but vibration doesn't.

Mine does not activate the bumpers, neither for the "safe" exit nor the
"spinner" exit (which both end up in the same area). I believe this is
the way it was designed - the pop bumpers are probably inactive for a
few seconds while the ball is being ejected. (I may be wrong, but
that's what I think.)

Mine sometimes drains, sometimes pops - it all depends on if the ball hits
the pop or misses it. Regular action on the pops is fine.

Mine almost always hits the pop bumpers coming out of the safe, and
rarely hits the pop bumpers coming out of the spinner.
The rocky mountian pinball showdown had three machines set up for the
tourney, I ended up playing all three. One of the notable differences
between the machines was how sensitive the pop bumpers were. One was
really dead and everything was a dribble out the exit lane, I liked the
one that was more sensitive and set mine up to play more like that.
BTW isn't it time for another RMPS now? I'm ready for one.
One thing I found *greatly* impacts the amount of time the ball spends
zipping around between pop bumpers is the angle of the machine. I found
that up to a point, steeper means more time in the pop bumpers. I have
mine set so that the bubble is about 1/3 outside the steep side of the
marker.

The machines at RMPS each had a way different roll out of the pops. The
center one was brutal. I heard someone say "The winner of the tourny
will be the one that can manage the roll out of the pops." When you
going to let us come smack your Sopranos around Jeff?

If there is enough interest, I'd be glad to host a pinball party. That
would be fun, rarely are they all being played a thte same time. It's
kind of cool when they are. Are there enough people around Monument,
Colorado? I can always reset the high scores on my machines later if
Donovan shows up.

Doh, I completely forgot that the spinner also feeds the bumpers, not
just the safe kickout!
Both of these feeds just seem to barely graze the bottom bumper. I'm
still not sure whether or not the bumper should fire. Is it just a
matter of operator preference?
Ideally, the player should get a chance to control this. Maybe by
shaking the machine as the ball passes over the bottom bumper, it's
enough to set off the bumper and start the ball bouncing around in the
jets? And if the player holds the machine still, then the ball just
quickly dribbles out of the bumper area (important if a timer is
running)?
That would probably be the ideal way to set it up, but difficult to
maintain the bumper sensitivity setting at just that delicate point....

I wouldn't call it a lose-lose situation. Party at the Bing or
F-Frenzy + spinner + lotsa pops = lotsa points. I like it when I get 2
or 3 shakedowns from one trip to the pops.
Has anyone noticed that, in multiball, somehow all the balls can stay
in the pops, but when one ball leaves, more than often all of them head
toward the flippers one after another?

I've noticed that when there is a timer running and the ball is in the top
end of the machine that the timer doesn't really run until switches are no
longer being hit in the top end of the machine. This is a good thing
considering hos the pops work on this machine.

2 or 3 shakedowns on one trip? Hmm, I imagine that's good for the score.
Mine are not set that sensitive, maybe I should make an adjustment and play
with it for a while.
Yes I have noticed the multi-drain move this machine can display at times -
very frustrating....
