First of all, I have googled this topic already but want fresh opinions
from the group...
Only have one pin right now (CFTBL)close to adding my second one. I
was laser focused on TZ until recently. LOTR is starting to grow on me
and evil thoughts of it being my next pin are festering in my head?
Am I absolutely insane to be considering LOTR over TZ?
Creature is fun but not near deep enough for me. I like the challenge
of a difficult to reach wizard mode. This is what drew me to TZ.
Unfortunately, TZs aren't readily available on route (Compared to
LOTR). The TZs I have found have various issues that unfortunately
make them poor represenatives of a well cared for home TZ. That said I
truly havent spent time on a well shopped one. Pinmame has given me a
good indication of TZs play. Enough said...I love the TZ theme and I
love the TZ depth of game play...case closed I'm buying a TZ next no
"Ifs" "Ands" or "Buts".
.....enter LOTR (insert dramatic door creaking open sound....)
Played it a year ago and thought "Ehh" fun but no big deal. I was
underwhelmed by the playfield, the photoshop pixelated playfield art,
"chessey action figures (IMHO)" and gameplay was ho hum. Let me say
that I am a big fan of the movies so the theme appeals to me. I
continued to play it on location at a couple places and have found it
strangely growing on me as I began to understand what I was doing. Now
I am excited to find one and play it on location when I have the
opportunity. The art doesn't look so "Photoshop" anymore, the action
figures aren't chessey and the shots are satisfying and varied. Add
the great depth of ruleset, Awesome sound package (certainly compared
to Creature) coupled with an overall "Darker" feel and I may have found
my second pin! I feel that the darker more serious LOTR might be a
better contrast to my Creature which is much more lighthearted.
So am I crazy or what?
Let's think of it also in these terms...which is the better investment?
Caveat: Pins aint the stock market and I (More specifically my wife
and kids...when I die) am not going to get rich by owning then selling
either pin. But what is the more "Sound" choice from a value
perspective.
I can blame a bit of this on Terry (pinball life) as I stopped by his
place for a coin door a few weeks back and we talked a bit about his
LOTR, among other things. He called it an "Adrenaline" game which
inspired me to check it out again at a local gameroom Thanks Terry
So there you have it any passionate thoughts on my dilema (what
....passionate thoughts on RGP??? Never...lol)
