HDs Delayed Response

I get about a 5-7 sec. delay before my HDs respond, under Win 7. On this same computer I ran under WinXP for years and never had this type of behavior. I've got 3 HDs. A 500G running Win7 and Linux, and a 750G & 1T drives. These two latter data drives will delay in responding when I go to save or read a file. IF I've recently used the drive, then there's no delay.

This never happened under XP and does not happen in Linux. I've set the drives to never go to sleep, so I do not understand what Win 7 is doing to cause this problem.

Anyone recognise this Win 7 behavior?

Mine does the same on the drives that are not being used all the time, can't say it bothers me to wait a few seconds as it's only at the initial startup and by the time I open another file for edit it's already done.
