Bang & Olufsen equipment reliability at question.
My expensive Beosound 9000 (6cd/Radio) system has failed miserably to meet with my reasonable expectations for service reliability.
In 12 years of careful ownership I doubt that it would have operated for more than 400 hours TOTAL time with say some 80% being CD playback time! I try & run it every second week, at least, even if it is for a short time only (say 10 minutes min.) to ensure that everything is operational
This machine has now broken 2 times with a repair cost in excess of $2000. Even though I live in a coastal environment the B&O technician says that corrosion is not an issue. Every breakdown is pretty serious & expensive.
B&O in Brisbane (Australia) seem to be in pure money making mode when this occurs.
The machine sits in a purpose built cabinet and is well sheilded from normal domestic dirt load, such as dust etc.
On the contrary the B&O "pencil" speakers I bought at the same time have performed well.
B&O in Denmark have absolved themselves from any responsibility for manufacture defects and are not prepared to properly support their once main top of the line product.
Seems that $'s rule over the Company's reputation for quality and supposed excellence in engineering.
My advice, --- think very carefully before parting with huge bucks for B&O equipment where you can probably buy equivalent equipment for far less $'s from other suppliers in US, Europe & even Japan.
Like to hear from anyone else out there with their experience's of B&O equipmenthttp://img.tomshardware.com/forum/uk/icones/smilies/pff...
