Happy reading too! AnandTech pointed some very interesting point about pricing and rating. And the Sempron 3100+ is nearly as fast as A64 2800+, it might become an interesting overclocking CHIP.

The only big disapointment is that AMD clearly want to kill the Barton core, with their new pricing. So, if you want to get a FAST CPU for SocketA, buy it now or the only interesting option will become overclocking Mobile Barton.

but, this move is easy to understand, Barton core are bigger than tbred-B and by doing this, AMD want people to buy low-end A64 instead of "high-end" AXP.

HE HE HE!!! It's true, AMD keep the low/mid-end crown with the now (or old) Sempron. But with the new Celeron D, the performance gap is clearly reduced.

Much reduced. The 2.8Ghz Celeron D isn't as poor a choice as the old celerons were at all! The 2800 Sempron is still stronger, of course, and the 3100 is an excellent upgrader's choice...

So, if you want to get a FAST CPU for SocketA, buy it now
Will you?
I was thinking a little bit of it, but then I'm pretty sure it's not worth it to spend extra cash only for the extra L2 Cache, which did not increase the performance much..

Lower clocked Semprons can be great overclocking choice, like lower clocked T-breds

seriously thats a great thought about the l2 cache.
We all know L2 cache bumps performance, BUT. The processor
rating says it all. I wanted to get a 3200+ just for
the 1mb L2, but the 3000+ is only 200 points behind it in rating
and 100$ or so less expensive. Very soon expect to see cheaper AMD 64's
with the higher ratings w/ only 512k L2 cache at a much cheaper price.
The higher the cache the more cache(cash) you spend.

I know it might not be worth it, but, for people who have old SocketA CPU and have a tight budget, it's time to buy, because in a few months it might be hard to find Barton on the market.

I will personnaly not upgrade my CPU (see my signature), because I plan to get an Athlon 64 based-system by the end of the year. I was planning to upgrade in late august/september, but I will delay my upgrade a bit. I would really like to get a PCI-EXPRESS mb and a "low-speed" S939 CPU, and these things will probably be available in a few months.

It will be interesting to see how cache size will impact 64bit performance, I doubt that there will be much difference, but this might affact a bit the performance in 64bit mode.
