Could you write a batch file or something that you then stuck in your startup folder that would delete the contents of certain directories?

It seems to me that deleting your temp files, prefetch files, recent files, internet temp files, etc would keep things nice and clean. Maybe even delete all cookies except certain ones?

Also, does anyone know of a friggin' utility that lets you see the size of FOLDERS when you're exploring in windows? I simply don't understand why that feature is not a part of the OS.

One more question. I think Windows Media Player creates a folder called MY VIDEOS. Is it possible to have that as an option in the START menu like MY DOCUMENTS and MY MUSIC? What about MY PICTURES? I could have sworn that one was possible and I have it selected but it's not showing up in my menu.

The answer to part of it is MS Antispyware... They have a thing in there called Tracks Eraser... It's a whole sh-t load of temp file, cashes, & such, that you can check a box & delete them... It shows more of it & lets you delete them, than an other tool I've seen....

dh, there is the free program that does most of what you want ... except the selective save of some cookies ... but it might do that too ... I've used it for quiet a while to periodically clean up all the crap around ... and it's called (da da) ... CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) ... small d/l and fast - I manually use it daily ...

Hovering your mouse over a folder in WinXP reveals the folder size.

When I hover my mouse over certain porn links ... it reveals a thumbnail of some asian chick giving head ... but no mention of size ...

Jake that was genius. You MUST give me a link to the program that does that!

That way I'll hover often over DH's username...

Not necessarely. If the folder is large it just says "larger than..." and it takes a while for that.

Seriously, this feature is so obviously needed. There must be a utility for it.

BTW, one more fantasy about me and I'll fly up to Hull and [-peep-] your mother.

ROTFLMAO!!

Yeah I agree, it's ridiculous that simple information like that is kept from us. You shouldn't have to open folder properties to get what you want. It should appear in the status bar if anything. I don't think I've seen the message you see though, how much are you storing in one folder?!

OS X has a few things Windows could really stand to use too.

If I remember correctly my old Mac did have this feature. One feature that the Mac really has right is the ability to resize windows to fit the contents. All windows has is tiling windows.

Uh no I'm not. OSX kicks ass IMO. It is definitely limited versus Windows in terms of experienced user's tweaking needs (registry tweaking, etc.), but it's got some great functions, an excellently optimized OS graphically and in terms of efficiency/performance, and overall a nice user friendly interface.

yeah it has a friendly interface but it is graphically better becuz macs normally have better grafix than pc's and pc's use too much graphic hog things(you know what i mean by that?)

Actually anything before OSX for Macs was simply horrible visually. I couldn't fathom how people liked these things, with their bold fonts scattered everywhere, like a Win3.1 on drugs!
And the window icons are simply not intuitive, I never could remember which button resizes and which closes! The whole MAC OS was a mess in my eyes, until Apple came along with their trend of sober but excellent design philosophy.

Also, I don't quite see your point for graphics hog things. This is exactly why I said OSX is well optimized, because the interface, which is quite rich in design, doesn't suffer as much as Windows XP's on a weak system. If anything, WinXP, although it has a very nice GUI (IMO), prolly is lacking optimization. Seriously, both OSX and WinXP are similar in how much design is put on the interface.

But I will admit that when it comes to specific tasks like 3D, Flash and some other multimedia formats, Macs just plain suck from the architecture ground up. Though a G5 does very well for Photoshop/static 2D work.

Longhorn will be following in OSX's footsteps if I'm not mistaken. It's a 3D rather than 2D desktop isn't it?

thats what i was saying xp systems suffer more, becuz those machines are graphics hogs cuz of all the freakin candy microsoft tries to put into their machines.

Reply to mrface

No but that is what I was saying lol. Graphics are rich in both. But OSX has a better programming interface that makes it run better. MS crams graphical eye candy quite similarly to OSX's animated interface, but it's just a matter of proper optimization. It doesn't have anything to do with the machine per se, since more often than not they are more performing than a MAC overall anyways.

Err OSX is not 3D.

Longhorn though seems to be using 3D. It's a first of its kind I guess.
