I'd love to test, but both the signup and login links don't work for me. Clicking both gives me this:

Tried on both my main machine and in a clean VM image running the latest version of Firefox with only the FoxyProxy add-in loaded. Followed the steps for the FoxyProxy setup as shown in Joe's thread: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/54-68-welcome-forum-p....

Will try in Chrome shortly, but it's late and I'm tired :)

Do you have any addons that might be affecting it? I know that Ghostery will partially break the login process, although it doesn't prevent this form appearing. Check the browser console to see if any AJAX requests died when it popped up.

I used Scientific Linux 6.3 with Firefox 10.x ESR with adblock and foxyproxy.

Hey,

Yeah, definitely let us know if there are any AJAX errors as randomizer suggests. Thanks for the instructions randomizer!

Checked the error console in Firefox and only found these 2 entries making any reference to ajax:

Timestamp: 10/29/2012 6:42:32 AM
Warning: Use of attributes' specified attribute is deprecated. It always returns true.
Source File: http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.5.2/jquer...
Line: 16

Timestamp: 10/29/2012 6:44:41 AM
Warning: Use of getAttributeNode() is deprecated. Use getAttribute() instead.
Source File: http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.5.2/jquer...
Line: 16

There are a lot more entries here though, such as:

Timestamp: 10/29/2012 6:44:38 AM
Warning: This pseudo-element must use the "::" form: '-moz-focus-inner'. Ruleset ignored due to bad selector.
Source File: http://m.bestofmedia.com/sfp/css/global.css?1351167034?...
Line: 1

Is there any way to export everything in Firefox's error console to a text file or something more useful? Doesn't seem to be any obvious way to do it...

Okay... I have no ideal what the heck is going on my end... I have enabled the proxy settings as Joe has listed but I'm not able to get the to Beta site with the proxy enabled... What am I missing, as I'm sure I have over looked something...

What other plug ins are you running?

Why do you have bar graphs where the post counts for the forums display?

Settings are identical to mine.

Had issues with signing in like The_Prophecy but seems fine now after i reinstalled the fox.

The_Prophecy,

I don't think any of those errors would explain what you are seeing. There doesn't appear to be anything show-stopping... just warnings.

As for issues logging in with Firefox, I don't know. I think Proxy Switchy for Chrome seems much more reliable. Have you tried that? Does that work?

I think the Chrome proxy switcher changes your system proxy settings (since that's what Chrome uses) so make sure you revert the change when you're done.

I don't know? I never really noticed it before. My guess would it has to do with how my forum profile is linked to my Tom's Hardware CMS system used to write / input my News stories...

randomizer,

It definitely does, because if you have the proxy set on Chrome, and open Firefox, it'll show the new forum in Firefox too until you switch it back or close Chrome.

Not here. I have both open and it does not matter which is open first or anything else. I consistently have the live forums on FF and the Beta on Chrome.

Just to make sure I rebooted, started Chrome first, navigated to the new forums, and then opened FF. I'm typing this in FF with Chrome still open to the beta forums.

I do have Foxyproxy installed in FF and can use that to switch to the beta as I like.

Looks like that's the case. Tried in Chrome and it works there. I don't normally use Chrome, but I'll suck it up for the duration of the beta :)

Proximon,

Interesting! Maybe I have a different version of Proxy Switchy.

tecmo34,

Yeah, it depends on the privileges whether or not you see an activity bar chart. It doesn't give that much information anyway. Just a general trend of how active a forum is.

The_Prophecy,

I just tried firefox and was able to login. So, its either the proxy or some plugin... Or a bug that might be pretty hard to find.

Can you do me a favor? Open firebug when you are on the page. Then clear out the console. Then click login. What comes up then? That will hopefully get rid of the extraneous information.

I'm having some odd issue with FF now. It takes literally minutes for the program to start. Chrome and Opera still only take the usual second or two. I'll try uninstalling FoxyProxy and see if that goes away.
October 30, 2012 10:07:44 PM

@ Justin,

One error appears in the Firebug console when I clear everything before clicking the Login button:

"NetworkError: 404 Not Found - http://www .tomshardware.com/community/signin?redirectToProfile=1"

Edit: Added a space to break the link above so the full text would appear.
October 30, 2012 10:15:42 PM

Hey,

We'll check it out...Sounds like it could be a proxy setup issue, like I suspected.

Justin

Foxyproxy was definitely causing my FF to take minutes to start. Removing it resolved the issue.
October 30, 2012 10:21:04 PM

Using foxyproxy, ghostery and adblock with no issues after a reinstall of the fox.
