I know that the fx53 is the best there but wat would be the best gamming chip with OC capabilities and for the $$$?
Mobile Barton 2500+ @ 2420mhz 11x220 1.7v
Asus A7N8X Dlx 440 FSB
1gb Geil GD pc3500 Dual Channel (2-3-3-6)
Segata 80gb SATA 8.5ms seek
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro to XT(463/795)
I'm sorry i don't have any info on overclocking the 3500+, but i just know the 3400+ will do 2.4Ghz with stock cooling. And i got nearly 2.7Ghz out of it.
The FX i'd say isn't worth it, so if you could wait(i know this is bad advice) for more Socket939 motherboards and chipset to come out, that might be a good idea. Personally i'm very satisfied with the 3400+.
That was my original plan but my girl's machine is too slow for sim2 and its comming out next month.
I was hoping to see PCIe on an AMD mobo and was waiting for that. The 3400 does look good since its got the cache of the fx53 and clock speed and could do more.

Hm, the 3400 is S754-based, so it's not likely that you'll be seeing any mobos supporting PCIe and S754 anytime soon... My guess is that they'll launch a S939 mobo (3500 and 3800+) with PCIe... Since S754 is obsolete. Even sempron is S939.
I'm also considering an A64, but I'm a bit unwilling to go with S754...

sempron is socketA and socket754 not socket939. that socket is reserved for the high end stuff while s754 is for the entry level budget solution. its part of amds strategy to differentiate their product range
