Hi all,

I'm exactly a beginner when it comes to computer specifications and things of the sort, but I am definitely not an expert, hence why I have turned to you guys!

I am looking to buy a new laptop that is to be mainly used for 3D modelling and rendering (Sketchup, V-Ray, AutoCAD etc) alongside other packages such as Adobe Photoshop. I would also like for the laptop to provide good features for entertainment (movies, music etc).

The boxes that I am trying to tick include:

1) Has a more than capable processor for dealing with all the design programs as mentioned above
2) A good enough graphics card to support these features
3) A 17" screen or bigger
4) Enough RAM to support all my requirements
5) And the big one...cost...£900 is my top whack budget, but preferably lower than that if it can be avoided

The laptops I have been looking at include the Sony Vaio, Toshiba Satellite, Dell Inspiron...I have attached links for a few of the laptops I have been looking at

any other ideas are extremely appreciated

Thanks in advance

Based on your apps(CAD & Graphic), the Dell Inspiron from your list seems to have more power on graphic than the other two. One thing you have to check is to be sure that the graphic card is using dedicated memory, not shared.

Thanks for getting back to me :)

I've looked at the Dell's over the weekend and have come across what I consider to be some good deals on their website, especially with regards to the Dell Studio 17 models. I am particularly interested in the ones with the i5 and i7 processors but both have slightly different spec. and i am not sure as to which one is best suited for the criteria I am trying to meet.

Is anyone able to help me out on that?

I have attached a weblink to the the page, the 2 I am considering are the two furthest on the right of the page with 17" screens.

Your help is much appreciated guys
