too bad, i was going to buy one. Probably can find one now for really cheap. Still a very good cpu, 2mb cache should last until dual core cpu comes out.

You seriously were going to have an upgrade chain of:
2.8B
3.0E(extra bus, HT, maybe justifiable... Doubles as room heater at least...)
3.2E(OK, this was surely a waste of cash)
3.4EE(truly deranged, IMO... )

You have too much money. You appear to like throwing it away, so why not send me some?

i don't think i'm going to get 3.2ee, my prescott 3.2e seems to be adequate for the time being. the 3.2ee is still over $900, but who knows.

Interesting how intel is discontinuing P4 3.2EE, intel says their shifting to higher performance intel processors. the 3.2ee was never meant for mass production in high quantities anyway, but merely a solution to provide competition against A64 FX-51 in high performance segment. I guess the demand for 3.2ee has died down too.

Still a while before intel stops making them:
'The last product discontinuance order date for the chip is 19th of November, 2004. Last shipping dates for the chips are February 18, 2005, and July 29, 2005, for boxed and tray versions respectively.'

or has never been there, id be curious to see how many have been sold!

I dont think youllever find one of these chip for cheap. As you said its aimed at the high end sector and the rpice will remain high end.

If you re-read my post, you'll see I wasn't being particularly abusive. I wasn't even mocking his choice of a Scotty over a Woody (as seems to be the current trend  ). I wouldn't buy one myself, but to each his own...

I was simply questioning the sanity of someone who would upgrade in a pile of small steps like that, inside a couple of months. If you have a 2.8B, why go 3.0E -> 3.2E -> 3.2[or 3.4]EE? why not go straight from 2.8 to 3.2 (E or EE)?

Nothing against him, just saying he's wasting oodles of cash going about it like this - he could've spent it on beer and hookers instead....

So you would find it an intelligent way to spend your money ? Buy 4 different cpu's, one right afterthe other, and that all perform within ~15% from each other ? Sure its his money to spend on whatever he wants, but he bids on an Ebay auction for a K6-233 and pays $800 for it, I'd still have on opinion on that.

So what if he is a married homosexual who doesn't drink?
Drugs. A really huge TV. I'd go for the TV option I think.

who doesn't drink?
Actually, just that part would warrant suicide IMO.

if hes going to get rid of his current cpu, why doesnt he just overclock it to like 3.6ghz? 99% chance nothing will be damaged, and itll same yim 900$!

Extreme Edition processors are ridiculous. They're pathetic. The idea of them existing in the same universe as I do is revolting. They don't make sense.

$900-1000 for a CPU? Nonsense.

FX's are also not much better off.

Both Intel and AMD should focus at making affordable quality products. Not desktop chips for "enthusiasts" (never seen one who could buy an EE or FX) that carry heftier price tags than server processors, for crying out loud!

...just to make both companies' e-penis larger!

Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - THAT'S MORE LIKE IT!

Well.... there are women who spend thousands of dollars on clothing and purses.

So stupid, senselessly rich people exist.

Unfortunately, I don't know any.

If I knew, I'd probably get better birthday gifts, that's for sure!

Ok, I went from an xp1800 to an xp2400+ to an xp2500+ to an xp-m2500+, am i an idiot?
I dont realy know what caninekit is doing with his "old" processors, but I used mine to upgrade family systems. I dont care what upgrades he makes, so long as it isn't a waste.

Good riddance to wasted rubbish. Intel needs to get with the program or AMD will continue to put-in-a$$ all over Intel.

Opteron's for server, and 940 fx, however 939 fx is simply the enthusiast CPU.

:)

Assuming your 2500+ XPM clocks well above 2 Ghz, I'd say there is a much bigger leap in performance here than 15%, probably 50+%. XP2400+ ->2500+ obviously makes no sense, unless as you pointed out, you simply bought new cpu's for other computers. AFAICT, Kanavit didn't. Oh well, its not my money, I have better uses for it really.
