Hey right now I have intel 2.4b oc'd to 2.7 and abit IC7 MAX board. I was wondering if its worth upgrading to athlon64 3000+ or 3200+ along with the MSI Neo Platinum MOBO. I have two same corsair xms sticks. Thanks

PS. Oh and i have x800 xt pe

EDIT: Just realized there is no dual channel for 754s. Oh well.
Edited by Malignant on 08/18/04 10:58 AM.

For gaming, yeah I think that would be an upgrade worth doing.

I don't think so really... I wouldn't upgrade unless you'd get a solid 30% improvement in cpu power at least, something a 3000+ won't offer you. Further more, I think your system is plenty fast for todays games, no ? WHy don't you wait until it bothers you, then get a 4000+ or whatever.

I would say that yes, your proc is a bottleneck if you are running an insane card like that. But... if you're gonna do an upgrade, I would recommend at least 3700+. And if you go that route on socket 754... you'll never be able to upgrade your proc again. May want to wait for socket 939 parts to come down, then migrate to a higher processor... on the K8N Neo2 Platinum mobo!!!

First off, dual channel just doesn't matter with socket 754.
If there is a game that needs more fps to be playable with your favourite settings, go ahead. If everything plays fine now, you just have upgrade fever.
