HI,
I have also posted this in the Video Card forum. I currently have a mobile 2500+ @ 2.5 Ghz,ABit AN7,512 ram, 9800 Pro. Im considering upgrading but am confused what to get 1st. Here is what im trying to decide between.

Amd 64 2800+, Chaintech VNF3-250 = $224
or
BFG 6800 GT OC = $400

My current system plays Doom3 at 800x600 High Quality in the 50fps range. The games that i will be playing later on are Half Life 2, LOTR:Battle for Middle Earth. Any advice will help alot. Thanks in advance.

why not get better than the 2800 and a better board if u want.

i would get a new proccessor because video cards' price will drop a lot sooner

Definately the videocard. I'm not even sure a A64 2800+ would be faster than a AXP @2.5 GHz in Doom3, and I'm pretty sure it will be slower in just about anything else.

I could get a faster cpu but @ $224 for a 64 bit cpu i kinda like the price/performance ratio there. Not sure about the price/performance ratio on the faster 64 bit cpu's.

totally agree. that cpu is wayyy more then enough for games. trust me, i own the exact same setup almost (2.5ghz Xp-M, NF7-S which is the same as the AN7 minus the Uguru overclocking chip). and trust me , my 9800pro is definately the bottleneck in Doom3 Farcry and the HL2 alpha
