I believe it...I tried awhile putting check id on mine, and did no good.

When i worked at Old Navy i would always check the card and stuff and about 1 in 10 wouldn't be signed and i asked for a drivers licence and another form of signed ID....which is our policy, and they tryed to sign it in front of me and i was like 'it doesn't quite work that way, you could just be making it up' and i actually had to deny a couple purchases because they didn't have licences on them.
I checked but i know most people dont. because nobody ever asks to see my id when my card says CID!
I have See ID Please on the back of my cards and almost nobody checks. The post office is the biggest pain in the ass since they won't even accept my cards unless my actual signature is on the back, which I refuse.

I'd used my Visa payment card so much that my sig had worn off the the strip at the rear, and no one picked it up for nigh-on 2 months. Took a 16 year old girl at my local supermarket to request extra ID. Got chip and pin now, finally catching up with the rest of Europe.
Last time I was in the US I paid by my card in 2 or 3 shops. Each time they handed my card back before I'd signed the receipt. That's just wrong.

My boss had a trip to Canada a few months ago, and about a month after she got back, opened her credit card statement to find thousands of $CD on her card. It had been skimmed in a restaurant. Bastards. Fortunately, the company refunded her when she proved that she'd been back in the UK while it'd had been used. Fockers.

i only use debit now(no mo credit for me, thanx to the wifey) that way if they clean me out its only my small bank account not the big 'un or raise my credit(cuz even if they reimburse you still have to pay interest, u know how credit companies are.)
I work therefore I am conservative.

If you use your debit card they only guarantee a very small amount due to fraud etc, maybe $100. If you use your credit card the whole thing is guaranteed. I have an american express card that pretty much guarantees everything and whenever something out of the ordinary happens on my card I get an e-mail. When my credit limit is being approached I get an email. Granted I pay off the card each month, to avoid interest and finance charges, but you're much safer using a credit card than a debit card. A debit card is basically cash. If you're making big ticket purchases or online purchases a credit card will generally extend your warranty and satisfaction guarantee as well. Everything I buy on my card gets 90 days.
I really bring this up since I am constantly faced with this when I travel. If someone was to steal my ATM card I could really get screwed. What I did this last time was lowered my daily limit to $300 on both my ATM card (which has zero protection btw) and Debit Card, turned off the overdraft, and then only moved funds into my checking from savings on a need be basis, online. You can't really move funds from savings into checking on foriegn ATM's. At first I was paranoid and setup a seperate bank account with only travel funds in it but I think that's a bit excessive.

I probably would have used that seperate account (from a different bank even) but my bank decided to waive all fees and make banking very simple for me when they heard what I had done.

In 2002, I went to Salt Lake for the Winter Olympics ... the principal sponsor (TV wise) was Bank of America. I had just bought a new Jeep and was gonna drive out and catch some of the events (alpine and skating), and I had a B of A checking acct. I thought, great, I'll take my B of A ATM card and get cash as I need it, since I assumed B of A's were everywhere ... when I got out there (4 friggin days driving), I found out that there was not a single fucking Bank of America in Utah ... I was pissed. ATM fees arn't that much (couple of bucks), but it was the principal ... if you had watched the Olympic run up ads on TV - you would have assumed there was a damned B of A on every corner ...

1. Stay the hell out of our country. 2. I work at Home Depot part time, and I check every card where they sign (so not those run as debit). I like to let them put the card away, then I ask them to see it. Everyone wants total convenience, but when their card is stolen and the thieves get to use it, they get mad that it wasn't checked.
Why should I vote when my choices are a douche and a turd?

When I worked in retail I checked every card. This caused me some grief on more than one occasion. In a couple cases I caught people with fake credit cards though so management loved me. I caught counterfiet money as well which might look real but when you touch money all day long you can feel the difference.
Either way, my point is that people would give me a hard time for checking their signature or demanding that they have one.

Coolest driver's license I ever saw was this old lady who came in and had the red bar with "Age 21 in 1910" on there. I don't remember the year exactly but she was in her 90's and I was 16 so I'll leave it at that. I guess the DMV screwed up but we had a blast with that.

Hey! Don't you want my tourist dollars? I help the breweries more than you'd know!
I congratulated the girl who spotted the problem with my card, as it had quite obviously been like it for some time. Most of the people in that shop knew me by sight, but that doesn't excuse their slackness. Should be no exceptions.
