Cyborg R.A.T. 5 mouse cursor is freezing every now and then

I have been using my Cyborg R.A.T. 5 mouse for about 6 months and it has been one of the best mice that I have eve owned. Everything has been good until recently. I have been having this problem with my mouse: the cursor would freeze up every now and then for now good reason. When I try to move my mouse it would move a bit and then stop. Then it would do it again until it would drive me crazy. Sometimes if I plug another mouse into my computer it would work, at least for awhile. I have reinstalled they drivers and everything like that. I have did a system restore a couple of days back before the problem had started. I know recently that I did install some Nvidia driver 275. something. I don't think that would be the case. Right now this thing is gonna stay unused. Any feedback would be great.

I have the exact same problem with the RAT 7 on Windows 7. My motherboard (which I hold partly responsible) is an MSI P67-GD65. I found that I solved the problem by tweaking the power settings in Windows control panel. But after a few months it started again. Using a light coloured mouse mat helps. Unplugging the mouse, and plugging it back in again whilst wiggling it often causes the mouse to wake up.
  2. hello everyone, I have the same issue, I own a rat 7 and suddenly the cursor stopped moving, the bottoms and clicks are functionals but only the cursor that stopped moving, I was able to fix the problem and I hope it will work for you as well, you have to update your computer drivers, I used rivasoft driver reviver, it`s a very good application that updates your pc driver automatically, this issue is related to the mouse and pc drivers not a hardware issue, since the cursor moves a bit then stops for like days if the sensor is damaged or defected the cursor wouldn`t move at all, so when I updated my drivers and connected the mouse again it installed its own drivers and now it functions perfectly. please let me know if this solves the issue. you can use any driver updating tool such as driver finder but the problem was fixed with driver reviver and it would cost you about 25$ for 1 year subscription. its worth every penny trust me.
  3. obviously the issue is back again, after one day of updating the drivers of my pc, so this assures that there is something up with the driver configuration, the problem is this issue is prominent in other computers as well, I will keep trying to fixed and keep up to date.
  4. im not entirely sure, but i believe the surface is part of the problem, i have a rat 7 with windows 7 as well, and i was experiencing the same problem with the random stopping, but i noticed that for me at least that it was only doing it on hard plastic surfaces. ie. gaming mouse pads. but it would work perfectly fine with regular cloth mouse pads, even this $2 mouse pad i bought, so its quite possible that the rat 7 is just really particular with the surface its used on.
  5. your probably right but the problem is I have been using the same pad for the past 5 months and it worked perfectly, just 2 weeks ago the cursor stopped completelly, no matter on what surface I use. it`s a drive problem but I don`t know how to fix it.
  6. I had a similar problem with my rat 7. It just started sticking, sometimes it wouldn't move for almost 5 seconds. I got so angry than I would slam it on the table in an effort to jostle it into working.

I tried all the above solutions. re-install, used different usb outlets, different surfaces and so on. Just when I thought I'd found a solution that worked it would start sticking again.

Then I noticed a tiny tiny thread stuck to the bottom of my mouse that was sticking out over the mouse's eye. I removed it and it started working perfectly again! Every now and again the mouse starts sticking, but I just have to clean the eye and everything is good again. I think the eye on the RAT mice is just extremely susceptible to obstruction, dust and things like that.

just went ahead and bought my self a logitech g700 wireless gaming mouse on release along with my new build, and had no issues what so ever, the mouse has a dozen of macrso and it works like a charm, when you want to buy something just go to the best one that makes it end of story I`ve learn my listen, especially for someone like me who cannot send anything back for replacment or return it, since I live out side usa. I am perfectly happy with the g700 :)
  8. Well I'm glad you found something that works for you! :)
Have you tried cleaning the eye and checking for small obstructions on your RAT5 like I mentioned worked for my RAT7? It'd be nice to know if that fixes the problem for other people, even if you've already moved on.

Like I mentioned mine works beautifully now that I clean the eye every now and again.

dude I cleaned the eye with all kind of stuff and I almost open the thing up, nothing worked, it only appears to work for a few hours after I leave it for a week or so unconnected, so yes I have tried all kind os solutions! you can`t imagine how disappointed I was when it stopped working, there is no where here you can get such mouse so I had no alternative, I contact cyborg support and they confirmed me that its a hardware issue and needed to be replaced, I couldnt replace it cuz I live in Libya.
  10. Ah, that sucks! They should have sent you a free replacement!

they can`t do that, no company would do that, its against policy and regulations, in fact they are being genirious for offering me a replacment in while I live in Libya, since the item was purchased from USA so they could have simply declined, actually part of it is my fault cuz I have read few negative feedbacks concerning this mouse and I simply ignored them and went ahead and bought it, this should never be the case with someone in my position who doesnt have the means to sent it back for replacment
  12. I have a similar issue with my G7 and it supposed to be down to it losing connection from the reciever signal, so it works and then stops for a second and then starts again. Its not down to drivers or mouse mat or cleaning the mouse as its always clean, and I haven't changed anything it just started losing connection. There were several suggestions about moving you reciever closer and higher but I have yet to test them.

This was my problem. I was soo frustrated and then read this. So I took my high powered can air and blaster the laser eye. Worked like a charm. Thanks
  14. i have a rat 7 and this happened to me. I called saitek and they told me to clean the sensor underneath. I did that, and it did not work, so I returned it. It came back and stopped working after a month. Frustrated, I just plugged it out and used another mouse. Cut another month and I plugged the rat 7 back in and it started working again. It will work for about a week then stop. I plug it out for awhile, then when I replug it in, it will work again. This has gone on for the last year. I had the same exact problems as you where the wheel and buttons work, but the cursor would not move at all.

this is a very frustrating mouse, which is a shame cause I like the feel and the form factor when using it. I'm not quite sure what my problem is- whether its a software or hardware issue, a combination of both, or something wrong with my setup.

I feel your frustration, just went with logitech and never looked back, I really loved R.A.T 7 and the way it feels but it`s usless if it only work for a little while then stops.
  16. I am having the same issue with my RAT 5, can't get the cursor to move.
Have uninstalled it, used it on 5 other puters, cleaned the lens, jumped up and down 5 times with my eyes closed, that got it working for half a second. Then when I sat down in excitement cause it started working - it stopped again.
So here I am using my $3 MS mouse.
Would love to hear any other ideas out there!!
  17. From all that I have rad here and from all the frustrating moments I have had with my RAT7, I can only conclude it must be bad hardware.
All the symptoms point to bad soldering: stopping then working after being unplugged for a while (chips cool down), banging it down o make it work and all the other ways of intermittent work.
Seems like Saitek wanted to save a bit using less solder than they should. That often happens with BGA ICs. I do not know what is inside, but I feel I won't be able to fix it by myself. Way to much frustration from this mouse to justify wasting any more time on it. I think I'll go Logitech next time, they work.

    i hope this help with your problems too;
i also have RAT 5 gaming mouse, and have been using it for 8months, and suddenly it just went broke, i "cursor not working".

my fix is change your power settings; never put your computer to sleep
power options/power plan/balanced(change plan setting)/put the computer to sleep "never"

this worked on me, i hope it would also help you guys out.

P.S. sorry for the wrong grammar and such, this is my first time posting in a forum, just wanna help. i've been searching the net for a fix, but have not found any, thankfully I've fixed mine on my own.

  22. Yea. Too bad my MSI motherboard USB controller fried and took everything that was plugged into USB along with it...

I ended up with a Steelseries Ikari Laser mouse until that was giving me a horrible double click problems and now I'm with a lackluster Razer Tron Mouse
  23. I found that a silent windows update for HID has broken my mouse so every time Windows starts I have to unplug and replug. Uninstalling the HID update fixes the problem but Microsoft insists on silently re-installing it every so often. Maybe time to move to a non-retarded OS such as Ubuntu.

I have a cyborg Rat 3 - great mouse, just wish MIcosoft would stop messing around. Had a similar issue in the past with a "Microsoft" brand mouse.
  24. hey this worked for me. i had this problem when it stopped and was lagging abit over the screen when i moved the mouse. after reading that the laser worked bad on the rat mouse and white mouse pads were the best to use, i took a normal paper and placed it ontop of my pad. it made the mouse work perfect and i havnt had any problems since :D

there is another setting which my be the problem. win 7 64/32 bit select power options from control panel >pick the one you want> click the blue change settings link> then click the blue change advanced power setting link> a list things will appear > click the + in the box next to USB to expand the options for it> USB selected suspend will appear below> click the + in the box next to it>an option to enable/disable this feature will appear below. disable it this should help perhaps I had the same problem but i'v only just done this so don't know if it works yet
  26. I found that my R.A.T 7 had a more or less the same problem, i dont know if this is gonna help but then again why not try. The R.A.T series uses a very sensitive laser, means that if any dust or hairs gather on the lens it will eventually stop tracking it is fairly easy to clean it first blow into the tiny hole, to see if it actually is the lens causing you trouble then you just take some alchohol and clean it with some cloth, or what you have laying around then you should be good to go! Note: my english might not be the best i am only 16 and english is not my native language :)
  27. I also had an issue with the R.A.T. 7 mouse. The cursor would either slowly wander downwards, or constantly drop quickly to the bottom of screen, even after thoroughly cleaning it. I read on forum to change the surface: mouse pad. I took out a piece of regular, college-lined notebook paper and used it. So far that has worked! Now I just need to find a mouse pad, because the notebook paper shreds easily. Thanks all!
  28. Solution
Hey guys i really hope this help i have just purchased a R.A.T.7 and it was lagging the whole time i went on their website and found this
My R.A.T. mouse’s onscreen cursor is slow and/or jerky. What is causing this?
We have found that some USB 3.0 ports can cause issues with R.A.T. mice. Moving to a USB 2.0 port should fix the issue.

To determine if the port the R.A.T. is connected to is USB 3.0 or USB 2.0, please check the manual of your motherboard or computer manufacturer’s website to find the specs for your computer’s USB ports
    it fixed my problem
Good luck sry if it doesnt work
  29. How long have you guys had your Rat 7 and how is it as im thinking about getting one?

This worked for me TY TY!! I had the issue where the mouse would freeze yet the buttons would work and if i left it unplugged for days and plugged back in it would work for about 2 hours then stop. Id slam it down id blow in it id unplug it and plug it back in many times and NOTHING.. i was about to return it or smash it on the ground but then i took a high powered air cleaner gave it a blast and kept it off the old ass mouse pad i was using and now it works MINT. im sure it was my dogs hair in there.. thanks again
  32. The unfortunate thing is that MadCatz now owns the Cyborg line of peripherals. I wouldn't even consider one of them anymore. I would highly recommend to anyone Steelseries mice. I'm on my second one (the laser Ikari mouse was my first) the Diablo 3 edition sensei. I have had no problems with it.
  33. I was having a problem when I unplugged the mouse and replugged it back it would work for a few minutes then it would get all jumpy again.

I managed to fix it by opening the mouse and re-soldering all the connections to the optic sensor. Upon closer inspection I noticed that not enough solder was on the pins of the sensor and there were some cold solder connection to the sensor.

I did not take pictures of the repair. I didn't think it would work.
  34. uninstall HID compliant mouse driver, in device manager located in Mice and other pointing devices, The only Driver should be Mad Catz own so if you have any other uninstall them too. Then Start/control panel/mouse/pointer options, Un-check enhanced pointer precision, Click apply Have Fun :)

Win 7 64 same issue never thought to look in device manager for mouse drivers i was looking in programs and install.
  35. I had exactly the same problem and the mouse cursor is totally not moving. Worked very well for a few weeks and it happened. It also happen to both my win 8 and win 8.1 PC. I had zero issues with my older decommissioned XP PC. This led me to believe its the OS issue rather than the mouse issue itself. Unfortunately Madcatz support sucks so we all have to wait for with MS or Madcatz to release a patch.
  36. I also had problems with that Cursor freezing on.
It would seem that this laser censor will not tolerate any rise in temperature.
I got my Rat 9 mouse to work the following types of trick.
I removed the mouse motherboard off and then I put the chewing gum laser sensor around and pressed motherboard in place.
Now, the heat is Transferred from the laser censor the bottom plate.
Beware of the laser hole not closing the chewing gum.
    Assemble the a mouse.
Finally, I took the mouse bottom of the laser hole around a plastic disc off so the air can better cool the laser.
Now the mouse has been operating for several days without any problems.
I turned this textin google translator, I hope this was Sufficiently correct.
  37. this thread is almost 4 years old, and people are still replying to, thats amazing, I sold my R.A.T 7 and own two mionix mice, optical naos and laser avior, the rat has the best clicking I have ever had in a mouse, ironically the problem stopped completely and the one I sold it to didn`t complain about it at all.

    WINDOWS7 ultimate 64bit

Hello. It looks as good solutions. I have asus mainboard and Windows 8, The computer will turn on and off several times a week by himself to do some updates .. ???

I had a 4x R.A.T 7 on the table already. They're all dead. The last one was on the table 3 days. One day in my hand.
One problem is associated to the use of USB 3.0
  40. I've been using the RAT 7 for about a year now with no problems. Then I built a new PC with a MSI x99s MPower motherboard and my mouse started to pause for a second every 5-10 seconds extremely annoying. Moving the mouse from a usb 3.0 to a usb 2.0 fixed the problem for me. The board only has two usb 2.0 ports so I hope I don't find this problem with other devices.
  41. I JUST bought a R.A.T 5 and it's constantly turning it's sensitivity to minimum randomly. It's pissing me off to no end and I tried everything I can to fix it. I'm considering just returning it if I can.
  42. It took me around 2 HOURS to Resolve this same problem!! [PROBLEM NOW FIXED]
I have the mobile Rat M which I really like, but twice this happened to me! It simply just disconnected to my laptop and stopped working all together and I couldn't figure out why!
However the one thing I noted was that this problem occurred when I left my laptop idle for a while and so it went into sleep mode, which actually disconnects bluetooth devices to save power, which in turn unpaired my Rat with my laptop. How dare it!!

So here's how to fix it on a windows based PC Step by Step in 2 parts!:...

I am using windows Ten by the way.

    PART 1

Step 1) Go to control panel power and click on hardware and sound.
Step 2) Click on Power Options.
Step 3) Where it says Balanced (Recommended) look to the right and Click on Change Plan Settings.
Step 4 ) Now Click on Change Advanced Power Settings.
Step 5) Go to USB Setting and click on the + sign.
Step 6) Where it says USB Selective Suspend Setting you need to Disable On Battery and Plugged in Setting.
Step 7) Now Click Apply to save this setting and click Ok.

You need to do part 1 in order to prevent your RAT from being unpaired when your computer goes idle.

    Step 2

After You've done Part 1 you Now need to Repair Your RAT and here's how to do it: (We're talking Bluetooth here NOT physical repair!!)

Step 1) Remove the USB Dongle from your computer.
Step 2) Turn OFF your RAT mouse and wait ten seconds.
Step 3) Now Turn Your RAT back on.
Step 4) Press and HOLD the Wing button (to the left of the left mouse button) AND the Precision Aim button at the same time for 5 seconds.
Step 5) After 5 seconds the Blue LED will stay on for 3 seconds to indicate it is ready for pairing.
Step 6) Now plug the Mad Catz dongle into the USB port on your computer.
Step 7) Wait a few seconds for the RAT to pair and hey presto the pairing is completed when the Blue LED pulses every 6 seconds

Your RAT should now work again so you can PARTY all night long :)

One thing I've always noticed with ALL Bluetooth devices is that they can become unpaired for what ever reason and it's usually to do with power going on and/or off so I guess the simple answer is to simply Repair your device with the item you are trying to use it with.

I hope this is of use to everyone and fixes the problem of Mad Catz Rat Stopped working.
  43. Тhe only reason I got this mouse is because of the chaning shape and size ... to use it for palm grip and for claw grip .. but after just 6 months of playing Battlefield the side buttons for back/forward now started to work not as intended. The clicks of them are soft and no more "CLICK" sound can be heard and also I have now to click them harder, otherwise they wouldn't work.

RAT mouses are just CRAT UTTER CRAP ... one of the most non-durable PC products out there .. my mouse LG for $10 is still working with only one if its side buttons being affected with "soft click" like menitoned above and I had used it for 6 years.. and this RAT THing brok in 6 months ... DON"T BUY MAD CATZ products FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT
  44. Clean the sensor area at the bottom with brush.
  45. Cleaning the eye is the key, even if you can't see anything.

I travel daily with my RAT7 in my bag and found its tracking ability to deteriorate over time. I didn't realise how bad it was until I happen to work on a new one again. Only now do I realise its minute pieces of dust gathering in the eye hollow.

Usually I would uplug the mouse and plug it in again or use a piece of paper as a mouse pad although it is suppose to be able to work on glass! When it started moving in only one direction again, I looked really hard to see anything in the eye but could not see anything. After going throuht this entire thread, I revisted the "clean the eye" option again.

I took my camera air blower (those rubber things that you push to blow air) and after a number of very hard blows the mouse started working perfectly again.

So, don't bother with the power settings, drivers or surface. Clean the eye with air (compressed air for use on camera lenses would work best but I didn't have any around).

To keep the eye from collecting dust when transporting it in a bag, cover the eye with sticky tape (but use macic tape - those matt white ones which does not leave any glue behind when you remove it) - this way any loose dust will cling to the glue and new dust can't enter. Just keep on using a new piece everytime and this should keep your mouse going for much longer between cleaning.
  46. I used several mice since I had a RAT mouse (from Cyborg not MadCatz) and I will say I think it was the mouse itself. It was a great mouse but nothing I ever did worked to fix the problem.
