Well I just wanted to know if the new AMD CPU the Sempron has the NX Excocute that the AMD64 architecture has, the reason I ask is because, well I have the Abit NF7-S and well I dont want to shell out some more money for a new mobo, CPU, because I just want to be able to have that in one simple step.

Current rig:
Aluminum case with 3 LED fans that Blow 36CFM
AMD Duron 600@900 with 150FSB Burnt my 1700+ :(
768MB of HyperX 3200 @ 2;2;2;10
IBM 7k250 80GB in raid 0
Gainward 5700Ultra @ 500MHZ, 1000
Pioneer 16X DVD
Pioneer 16X DVD+/- RW w/4x DL
and generic Mouse and Keyboard

Socket-754 Semprons doesn't have NX support, too

You sure? but from <A HREF="http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/20040728/sempron-05.html" target="_new">here</A>
it says that a socket 754 sempron has everything except 64bits computing and with 256L2

Sempron (Socket A version) doesn't seem like a good value, not to me.

For example (Newegg.com pricing).

Sempron XP2600+, locked, 256KB L1 Cache, FSB 166 Mhz, clock 1.83 Ghz, price - $88

Barton XP<font color=red>2500+</font color=red>, locked, <font color=red>512KB</font color=red> L1 Cache, FSB 166 Mhz, clock 1.83 Ghz, price - $90

Mobile Barton XP2500+, <font color=red>unlocked</font color=red>, 512KB L1 Cache, <font color=red>FSB 133 Mhz</font color=red>, clock 1.8 Ghz, price - $93

Duron 1800 (Applebred), locked, 256KB L1 Cache, <font color=red>FSB 133 Mhz</font color=red>, clock 1.8 Ghz, price - <font color=red>$49</font color=red>

In this example Sempron, Barton, and mobile Barton are within $5 of each other. Barton and mobile Barton have a bigger L1 cache. Mobile Barton is unlocked. Duron has a lower bus, speed at 133 Mhz (266), but is also a lot cheaper at only $49. Sempron is a Tbred B core. Duron is still potluck I think, Tbred A or Tbred B cores.

Personally, I think the unlocked Mobile Barton is well worth the extra $5 (over Sempron) and Duron is the best value (if you're not overclocking) and an ultra cheap upgrade.

[<b>addition</b>]
By the way, notice the Sempron XP2600+ gets a higher designation than Barton XP2500+ yet shares the same bus clock of 166 Mhz while having a smaller L1 Cache, 256 KB.

Seems to me that the Sempron should get a lower PR number than Barton.

<b>OOPS!</b>
I had the price for the retail Barton. The OEM Barton XP2500+ is $79.

I'd still rather have a Mobile Barton

<b>More Errors!</b> (Thanks Spitfire_x86)
I meant L2 cache not L1 cache for all plus Duron has only 64 KB cache.

I guess I was thinking about those early, L2 Cache unlockable Applebreds and completely forgot the actual specs.

My recommendation for Mobile Barton stands but I recommend Duron only for those with the cheapest of budgets.

Yeah, this is why I don't recommend Sempron

BTW, Duron (Applebred) has 64 kb L2 cache, not 256 kb.

Argh! Too many mistakes!

Obviously I meant L2 cache not L1 cache for all and I forgot Duron was 64 KB L2 cache. Guess I was thinking about those early, cache unlockable, Applebreds and completely forgot true specs.

Yes, I think you are right but I only glanced at one head-to-head comparison between Sempron and Celeron. (Now if I could only remember where I saw that...)
