What is so special about the sempron though I dont get it, I mean is it more efficient, is the core cooler, cause i can get a 2700+ for 80bux and it may run faster. Wouldnt it? and how good do they overclock?

I dont Hate Intel, I just only Buy AMD, DUH!!!

The Sempron conjures up the theme, "Semper Fidelus". That means that this is the pen-ultimate CPU for...............

Abit IS7 - 2.8C @ 3.4ghz - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - Yellowtail Merlot

Get AXP 2700+. It won't overclock much, but Sempron 2800+ won't overclock much neither. At stock speed AXP 2700+ will be always faster than Sempron 2800+.

Sempron 2800+ --> 12 * 166 MHz = 2 GHz
AXP 2700+ --> 13 * 166 MHz = 2.17 GHz

The Socket A version of Sempron is a Tbred B core but running at 166 Mhz FSB, like one of the XP2600+ models did.

AMD lost their collective mind with the Sempron PR numbering (IMO). While the 2 Ghz Tbred B was designated XP2400+ the 2 Ghz Sempron is designated XP2800+. Yet the old XP2600+ (333) mentioned above ran at (12.5 x 166.6) 2.083 Ghz and the XP2600+ (266) ran at (16 x 133.3, I think) 2.133 Ghz.

So why is the Sempron running at 2 Ghz designated XP2800+ while two earlier 2.083 Ghz and 2.133 Ghz processors were designated XP2600+ if they are all the exact same core? You got me!

In theory, the Sempron should overclock just as well as the old Tbred B's which typically topped out at about 2.3-2.4 Ghz with good air cooling and voltage mods. However, AMD Socket A processors are all now permanently locked (except the mobiles) and you have to overclock by FSB increases alone.

Get AXP 2700+. It won't overclock much,
He can still get 400-500 mhz, of overclock out of that 2700+ chip.

The Sempron is just a renamed T-Bred Athlon XP. Another thing is that they cost more than the T-Breds and comparable bartons (that comes from pricewatch.com). As long as their are still barton or t-breds out there, dont mess with Semperons.

I also believe that the Semperons have very limited OC capabilites too from teh reviews Ive seen.

The xp-m (mobile) chips are still your best bang for buck.
Yes they work in any board that supports xp2700+. Yes they OC above 2.2, and yes they run cooler at high speed, than regular xp chips.
