...i didn't post this to start a flame.

I posted it because its a nice machine... and coming from Apple, it is priced far more resonably then usual.

The LCD's wouldn't be a cheepies... each would be the equivelant of a $400+ or $800 monitor.

Take that off you have a VERY compact, good looking, fairly fast, 64bit(ish, from what i understand) computer for $1000

that is not that bad.

Crash...

I would have to say that Both systems crash just as much as the other. OS 9 was as bad as 95&98.

OSX is better just as XP is... They still both have issues tho.

Actually, I was kidding. OS9 crashes about half as often as 95 or 98, about 2/3s of 98se. For someone who has never seen a computer before, apples have been more user friendly. I also know some artists who swear by mac, but it's mostly asthetics.

the asthetics most defenitly drive the costs up... but such is life as a designer.

Ill give apple credit for soem wicked asthetics, if a pc manufacturer could come up wihta solution like this, ti would be a big hit in the valuse segment. like putting a dothan in there, it would sure hold its own against a g5 at 1.5-1.8ghz. heck you could produce any tablet to work in that way already.

the price is a bit much i think, a 1.8ghz cpu and low end graphics for 2k, that is defenitly inflated for looks.

Not likely. The Macs perform very well because they have very limited drivers, so fewer conflicts. The os is less top heavy as well.

The only problem with this iMac, is the GPU, a GeForce FX 5200, I can't believe Apple choose this crappy GPU. They should have put a Radeon 9600 (non-pro or SE) in it, this would have been better. But, this machine would still not be a gaming rig. I know Apple don't necessarly care about gaming, but it's the only reason why I'm not getting one!

I know a DIE-HARD MAC user who do digital video editing for living and he need a PC to play game, even if he have a Dual G5 2.0GHz in is computer room! It's kind of pathetic!

there is no proof of this though, its all speculation becuase no one will ever do a comparison.

Come on now Trooper you should know by now that CPU hz is not everything. The Mac has Always been faster hz to hz, and im sure the case is still true now that the mac is 64 bit. Ya 1.6 and 1.8Ghz isn't P4 3.4Ghz, but you can't expect fastest they have(2.5Ghz) in that small a housing with out considering heat. Its not intended to be a top of the line machine anyway. but good medium. Basicly you can take the same approch with Mhz here as AMD does.

Comparisons are done from time to time...but finding a site like Toms(non bias) AND having it done is just too hard. (try getting the Apple product there)

there are some ideas floating around here now about trying to get some Apple products(monitors and Towers) reviewed and compaired now... but nothing as yet has come to light.
