Isopropyl Alcohol

im switching some heatsinks around, i know using rubbing alcohol is good for that, but is Isopropyl alcohol the right kind to use?
any help would be great! thanks

Yup, a 2 or 3% solution is good.

Isopropyl alcohol IS rubbing alcohol, and the higher the percentage, the less chance of residue that you would leave on the HSF. Personally, I wouldn't use any less than a 50% solution, preferrably nothing less than 70%.

I was going to say to use Goof Off first, and then the alcohol. Works really well.

I use it neat (100%) - it's very effective, but you have to be wary of the fumes; isopropyl alcohol is HIGHLY flammable.

Axis of Stupid = coop, Kanavit, FUGGER, SoDNighthawk, and ninkey.

Just put on a new HSF on my FX-53. Used the little 70% swabs I had laying around. Worked like a charm.

I'm in the UK, and find it difficult getting my hands on any Isopropyl Alcohol, can I use anything like white spirit, or nail varnish remover?

Yes you can. Anything that will evaporate quickly and leave no residue is perfect.
