I was just installing a new cpu in my dads computer and I was off in la-la land or something because I forgot to connect the cpu fan to the board. Well, when I booted the computer I noticed I forgot to do this so I tried to do it with the computer on and I grabbed the wrong connector, one that came right off the power supply and not the cpu fan and as soon as I touched it to the fan header TINK, everything went off. Is this board toasted? Will current going THROUGH the fan headers blow the board like this? Now I can get the board to power on but nothing happens, no post, no sound, nothing. :(

Damn dude! Why didn't you just drop some metal shavings onto the board?

Lack of knowledge kills! Experiencing drugs or alcohol while in the "mission critical" phase can kill too! Which was it?

Yeah it wasnt lack of experience it was lack of sobriety that contributed to most of it. So do you think it's a roasted board? I think I know the answer but I wanna make sure it's beyond hope before I throw it in the dumpster.

Dead short on the 12 volt rail. Power supply may be toast. Use your nose, to tell what is burned. Also try reseting the bios.
FYI, if you just fried the 12volt rail, your system would try to start, but fail.

"mission critical" phase

Man, I'm not a veteran here yet... but in the time I've been here I kinda noticed that you seem to do things like this alot. What up with dat? Ah you answered my question, it was the beer. Just couldn't pull the plug and wait for the system to cool down?

Tsk Tsk Tsk...

On a more helpful note, reset the bios, cross your fingers and give a sniff. See if the PSU has any internal fuses you might have blown. Borrow a PSU from a friend or an old Mobo and give it a shot.
