What should i go for and why?
Athlon fx53 has a frequency of 2.4ghz??
or P4 3.4 GHz

Which will be the fastest?? And what makes 64bit so special even though it has a lower frequency??

thx in advance for any replies

Did you know that your can speakers operate at 20kHz!?! That must mean that they compute stuff too, right? Oh, and get this your cellphone is almost 2.0Ghz!! Why don't people use those instead of computers? People must be really dumb.

Ask yourself what a hz is before posting questions.

What made you choose those two chips, those are in two completely different price leagues.

Really it depends on what you are going to do.

If it were up to me I would get the FX-53 if I had the money. MHZ aren't everything. Put it this way the a AMD Athlon XP 2800+ runs at 2.08 ghz, however it is comparable to a 2.8 ghz Pentium. You need to read up on the mhz myth.

For each Ghz the A64 can do a lot more, compared to the P4, so it doesn't need to go as fast in order to perform the same (or better), exactly how the two perform against each other depends on what you're asking them to do.

A shot-putter will never beat a sprinter at the 100m, but the sprinter will never win at shot-put, you know?

The A64s tend to excel at stuff like gaming, but the P4s are good at encoding tasks (like compressing DVD video into DivX format).

I would go with an A64, but I wouldn't pay the price premium for the FX line. Something like a 3200+ - 3400+ would be my choice at the moment, if I wasn't going to overclock it.
