The sound quality is ok and my volume is decent with both my headphones and speakers. The surround features on both work but don't ever seem to standout to me in movies or games. I have a Yamaha Receiver and Klipsch Speakers in my living room for my TV and Blu-Ray system, which sound lovely and I would like to approach the same higher fidelity sound experience for my computing(where I spend more of my time.)
I have chosen a sound card that seems to have newer technology, and comes from a company with a great pedigree in making higher quality audio available to PC users. It is a Creative Zx and seems to have everything I need, but I will take any advice or suggestions of other brands/models. I have had Creative products(MP3 players, Speakers, Sound Cards) in the past and have generally impressed by the quality of sound.
The 2 below are related I guess, and if I am off the mark on the Sound Card just let me know.
My 2 Questions:
1. What would be a good value ($100-$350) sound system that would well with this sound card. My goals: are taking advantage of the surround processing on the Zx, the CrystalVoice feature to ensure clear VOIP communication, and just a richer sound experience in general. I would assume to use a TOSLINK cable to hook into an receiver of sorts but I am not sure if Computer Audio is any different.
2. I have owned several 5.1 Headphones from various brands like Razer, Plantronics, and Logitech. In trying to reach a higher fidelity sound, should I forget about these 5.1 headphones and just get some decent 2.1's like these Sennheiser Headphones or some other brand(suggestions)? I certainly like having the surround feature in games as it does help awareness, but since I have not experienced it on a higher and more optimized level, I don't even know if its worth it.
I figured I would ask the Gurus of Toms Hardware for Answers
Let me know if you need any more information in order to better make a recommendation(uses, other hardware, etc). Thanks for you guidance.
