I know this might not be the most appropriate of all places to ask this, but I was wondering if any one of you has had any experiences with any software that is capable of reading an image file and identifying letters from that text. I know such programs exist, and I'm looking for one....

I want to be able to, for instance, take a B&W 5MP picture (I have a digital camera to take those) of a printed piece of paper and retrieve the text contained in some sort of text or word document file.... Standard printed text, not hand-written text, which should be that much harder.

Can anyone point me to a good program capable of doing that?....

I think you are talking about Optical Character Recognition, or OCR. Here is a website with several resources about such software.

That's a VERY easy thing to do with ABBYY FineReader 7.0, especially since you are talking about printed text. Believe me, I've tried it a million times and it 100% works.
