Hi.

Im currently on an msi nforce2 board with a athlon 2500+xp overclocked to 3200+ speed. Also, the fsb is overclcoked and running at 1:1 ration for cpu and memory at 200/400. pretty fast...

If I got a nforce3 250 board and athlon64 3000+, would I notice a good difference in speed increase after overclocking the 64-3000+?

I think 3000+ are reject 3200+ cores (or is it 2800+ / 3000+?) so overclocking MIGHT be limited.

I beleive you will notice a speed increase, but against the cost of a new processor / mobo I don't think its worth it.

There would be a increase in performance, however I don't think you would really notice a big difference. Also when you consider the price to performance, it just isn't worth it. I'd hold out a little longer.

All things being equal your XP-2500+ will match an A64-3000+ in Aquamark3 at 2.375ghz. Clock it up!

Abit IS7 - 3.0C @ 3.6ghz - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - Yellowtail Merlot

Yeah, I would need a better cooler though.

But, thanks for the replies. Everytime i get itchy to buy stuff you guys stop me and make me realize that although the upgrade is a good upgrade its not worth the money, and will be a smart upgrade when things are cheaper. Which probably wont even be that long from now...

Thanks.
