Kinda makes me think of tukwila (former tanglewood): 16 multithreaded cores which are also capable of 32 threads. Except it's 16x2, not 8x4... (how much cache, I wonder, would the monstrous 16-core version of tukwila have? 12x16=192MB? Heck, the computer I'm on right now has less system memory than that...

It's good to see sun doing good.

I wonder if Solaris will be made to support Itanium?...

I'd put money down you won't see that any time soon. But, since the next version of Solaris will allegedly be shipped open source, it's possible someone could port it(probably depending on the degree of the openness of the source, too lazy to look it up right now). I don't see sun chasing the Itanium though, no critical mass behind it.

well i think amd would also be glad to hear sun doing well. sun has been pretty open armed about adopting opteron. thier success can only mean more business for amd. of course if sun begins to turn the corner fomr the problems they have had in recent years, it may wake up the lkes of ibm to be mroe agressive in opterons as wlel as thier own power 5.
