New Castle Vs. Sledgehammer

Sledge hammer is way over priced it seems, does anyone have or or have exp with one? and is there any noticable gains.... if so ill get it, if not i wont....

The difference between the sledgehammer(A64 FX) and newcastle(A64 3xxx+ - 4xxx+) core are minimal at best. The new castle core comes with 512kb of l2 cache (the s939 version is the one I presume your looking at) and a locked multiplier. The sledgehammer has 1mb of l2 cache and an unlocked multiplier. Other than that they are identical. The new A64 4000+ is pretty much a sledgehammer with a locked multiplier, it has 1mb of l2 cache.

Only get the sledgehammer if you have tons of cash, want to overclock and you need bragging rights. Otherwise, stick with the cheaper 3500+ or 3800+. The difference is not noticable and in benchmarks it may be 1 or 2 percent.
