So I have decided to purchase a Audio Technica AT2020. I was wondering what would be the best way to connect it to my PC. I was wondering either a XLR to 1/4" then 1/4" to 3.5mm or something like a Blue Icicle (XLR to Usb Preamp). Which would get the best quality? I'm using a laptop so I'm guessing that the Icicle would be better as the soundcard probably isn't that great. I would just want to make sure.

A 3.5 mm plug on the PC is two channels, left and right...stereo
that must be split into 2 mono XLRs, because XLR single plug is mono.
then you will have left XLR and Right XLR, this can feed pro sound equipment.
the wiring for the 3.5mm plug is
tip= right
ring= left
sleeve= ground, shield
The wiring for the XLR(s) is pin 2= signal (left or right)
pin 1 and 3= tie together, connect to ground, shield.
the wire must be shielded, then if wired correctly, it should work.

You need phantom power for the mic. You can't connect it directly to the PC...
