Best Chip Company: AMD or Intel

Not looking for whose chip is faster or cheaper. But most people tend to fall in one camp or another depending on their particular needs/wants. Just curious about opinions here.

2. Absolutely. Via is hands down the single best chipmaker on the planet. I couldn't agree more.

3. I am a life long member of the VIA fan club as well. They are truly pioneers in the industry. Who even buys Intel or AMD anymore?!? Sheesh...

4. Yeah, VIA C4 is going to be 10x faster than future Dual Core AMD/Intel processors

5. The guy asks a serious question, and you guys give out utter trash. Everyone knows transmeta is the only way to go these days.
6. If your ass is less expensive than P4 Extreme Edition, then it may sell well

7. From what I've heard, his ass is about 50 percent slower on most real world benchmarks and generates twice as much heat, mostly when he talks.

8. Transmeta on 90nm, nothing even comes close.

9. Oh please. I see the transmeta fanboys are late to the party as usual. Like Robinson CRUSOE, transmeta is as primitive as can be. Transientmeta is for fanboy luzers. Anyone who knows is on the Via bandwagon. The rest of you transientmeta luzers need to get a clue.

10. Primitive huh. So Giligan and the Skipper too would both choose the Transmeta?

11. Actually, I think the professor could have made faster processors out of coconuts. Transientmeta is for l8mers to the extreme.

12. look at the benchmarks, Transmeta 'PWNS' AMD / Intel / and VIA

13. i'm gonna have to say AMD atm. because they make products that fit my needs and demands right now. Not marketing BS. I don't want to pay for intel sponsorship anymore. most of intel's money goes to Dell ads and commercials. Like DDR2, and netburst has a wall. That direction will lead to a dead end. While AMD A64 has 64-bit potential and much more room to grow based on that architecture. Dual cores will even boost AMD even more. Dothan's are the only good intel chip atm, but they aren't even released for desktop yet, and is still using slower 100mhz fsb and DDR333. The P4 EE is rediculously priced, and still loses to A64 in many gaming applications. When you pay for Intel, You pay for overhead. It's like buying something from compusa. the stuff is $100 more for the same thing!

16. CyberCraig?....Craig Barrett....hmmmmmm?
17. i see you are continuing the joking theme of this thread ^^.

persoanlly, i actaully use amd, intel, and yes even via chips. the via chips i use in some mods in very small form factors and even a htpc system at one time. right now i have more amd then intel, but ive always had one of each, all of those chips have thier strong suits.

23. No, actually this thread is a joke. What a loaded question.

As I sit up in my bed looking at all the stars, I begin to wonder... WHERE THE HECK IS MY ROOF!?
25. Craig Barrett? LOL! I'm sure he surf's the web a lot on Saturday nite. Probably has a satellite uplink on his yacht. When he gets tired of the wine and the women he logs on to THG to help you answer the unanswerable! He's probably playing Doom3 right now on an A-64.

28. And no doubt should, and will again.
29. I'm sure he's got too many board members munchin' his ass to play Doom3. He may be playing the Sims though...as a virtual CEO who does everything right.

31. Therein lies the problem. It takes a lot of power to live in the virtual world. The wall Intel hit wasn't Barrett's making. What do we want? We want MORE! We will buy whatever can deliver it. We already have more high frequency flying around than we can deal with. My rig feeds back through my radio. Mom's AMD feeds back through her home intercom system. Cell phones are causing brain cancer. So what! Give us MORE! No wonder were becoming a bunch of high freaks! Maybe a 6 ghz CPU will cause your nose to bleed. You'll stuff some Kleenex up there and scream for MORE!

Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100

32. So what drives the desire for MORE? Do we all want Pixar capability on our desks? Or maybe predict our own weather without the need for the meteorologist? At some point processing power will reach what "most" people want to do with a PC and the need for MORE will wane.

So if chipmakers can't make more money boosting the CPU, they'll start integrating chips into everything you can think of. How 'bout a chip in your wallet that senses your buttcheeks are clenched. When you come home from work it sends a signal to your integrated home that you're stressed. Your fridge spits our a beer and your PC starts up Unreal so you can let off some steam.

The chip future lies in more integration, not more power...my 2 cents.
33. nah, house brand. I make chips in my backyard. Diff types too - like salty ones, spicy ones, green ones etc.
