The title is pretty self-explanatory. I run Ubuntu 10.04 on my Acer laptop, and I can't get the microphone to work. I've tried recording with audacity, and the standard sound recorder that Ubuntu comes with, and can't get anything. Help?

What sort of mic are you dealing with, i.e. a USB mic or a RJ-45 mic (like a head phone jack)?

The standard microphone that's built in.

I think you need to go to control panel and set the microphone to default device, that's what I remember cause windows originally select high definition audio input as default and render the mic useless

I had a similar problem with my acer laptop. A downloaded an updated audio driver from the acer website and now the microphone works fine.
