Just got my other Shadow and I've never played one before and I think
there is something wrong with my Sanctum wall. When you start a game it
goes up in front of Sanctum. When you hit it, it won't go down. Went in
to test and it goes up and down. I assume the opto in front of the wall
controls it and it tests fine in switch test. Seems like a great game
once I get it tweaked. I will try and post pics of it tomorrow.

That drop target is not like a normal one. The CPU can reset it and
also drop it. You can't drop it yourself.

During the game the opto fires the magent, holds the ball, CPU drops
the target, flings the ball into the lock, and then raises the target
back up.

Wow!!! Then what would stop the CPU from lowering it when the magnet
catches the ball?

Now getting switch errors for switch 51 down and 55 down. And also
getting wall target bad and battlefield bad as an error message. There
were no switch errors 1/2 hour ago...LOL

Just went back in test mode and now wall doesn't drop but it makes the
click like it is trying to drop. Do you lubricate this mechanism?

The CPU also knows when the target is down with a switch at the bottom
of it. If that is not working the game will think the target is not
down (or stuck down) and won't fling the ball. I would suspect a switch
error as well.

Are you having trouble with the wall during a game?

Check:
magnet opto
target up/down switch
magnet grab
wall up/down

Paul, sounds like you should dump this turd as soon as you can. I'll be
glad to take it off your hands so you won't have these issues anymore!!
;)

Good luck!!

This is what you need to do. You have a mechanical problem. There are a
few things to check there:
That target is controlled by the game software, not by the switches
that are mounted there. They only act as guidance to help the cpu
energize the coil that drop is up and down.

1)Check the spring that helps lowering the target down, might be worn
or sticking.
2) you need to take the wall target assemby out fo the game (from
underneath and disassemble it. It's not very complicated, but remember
when doing so how it all fits together.

3) There is a part in there that is commonly broken. I am writing this
from memory. Can't remember the part number offhand. But it basicaly is
2 metal pieces that go inside each other. That part is often broken at
the joint. You need to fill the hole with superglue and stick the other
metal part in. I wish I still have my old Shadow to demontrate what to
do.

If you take the picture of the wall target assembly I can point you out
to it.

Its a two piece metal pin that is pressed together. The coil is to pull the
pin back to release the wall but if the press is no longer holding the two
pieces together, the wall will not go either up or down.

Too easy...Mechanism needed a little lubrication. All switch errors
gone! Man is this game fun and CHALLENGING! Time to take pics and put
mylar on the Sanctum area while it is in its virgin state...LOL
