I want to format my HD, it has two partitions. How do I go about formatting my HD if I no longer want to partition it? Does NTFS use fdisk? Thanks.

Technically, you need to have it partitioned, or it won't store any data. But, I know what you mean...you'd like just one whole partition.

If you're clean installing Windows XP, which is what I'm assuming, you can just delete the two partitions during setup, then create just one whole one.

=\ The partition manager readme seems pretty complicated, I don't think I can handle it. Can't I just set the partition again when I format the whole drive?

It looks like you can get a trial version of Partition Magic 7 http://www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic/. I am not sure what is enabled and what, if anything, is disabled in this trial version. However, if it does work, you should not even need to reformat your HD.

Icy, I want to format it as well. That is why I just want to know the easiest way to format that drive and delete the old partitions while I create one big partition. Worst thing I'll do it prolly just format the drive and keep the partitions. =\

I really like the Ranish partition manager, and it isn't as bad as it seems.

boot from a boot disk, or a win98 cd or something.
put in the disk that has the Part files
a:\part
you will see the 2 partitions, arrow down to them and hit delete.
when you don't have any more partitions, and it is all just unused space, hit enter, and it will walk you through the steps to partition, and quick format (way faster than a full format) and basically you are done.
Exit and save.

I hope these two have helped out...just jump in, and I think you should be fine. If you question anything, the worst thing you can do is pull out and come back in here to ask again.

Easiest way:

1. go to http://www.bootdisk.com and get a boot floppy image. Boot from the floppy, switch to the A:\ prompt, and type: fdisk
Then, just delete all the partitions.

That'll get rid of them very easily.

To format the drive, just create and format a partition in fdisk. If you don't want to do that, just boot from the XP cd and follow the instructions basically...

Some day I'll be rich and famous for inventing a device that allows you to stab people in the face over the internet.

I'd say fdisk was more difficult to use than when you partition during xp setup, though none of these are difficult, which part is causing you the concern?
partition magics trial will go through the motions but not actually change your drive.
