Deskjet 842c troubleshooting

Our printer has always worked fine until recently. The previous ink cartridges ran out of ink. We replaced them, but when we went to print something, nothing would print. The yellow light that indicates there is no ink available keeps flashing despite the fact the ink cartridges were replaced. We purchased another set of ink cartridges, but the light continues to flash, and the printer will not print anything. Please advise.

Are you sure that you got the right ink catridges for your printer and that they were installed correctly ?
Can you print a test page ?
Have you tried turning the printer off and then back on ?
