Hello All.
I want your thoughts on trading my TSPP for a TOM. My TSPP is mint
and is the last run and the Tom is surpose to be in great shape. I have
not seen the picks yet.
I just cant get into the simpsons. I think it's because of all the
stop and go I like a more open playfield and I enjoyed the play of TOM.
Is it a fair trade strait across?
Thanks for your thoughts Jim

Hi Jim,
I think it is a good trade if the Theatre is as nice as your TSPP, I
also enjoy theatre more than tspp, both good games, I just like the way
TOM plays. Good Luck!!

As a player of both and owner of neither, I would say the TSPP is worth
at least $500 more than the TOM. So my answer is no.

In my opinion, yes right now the values are near equal, as an
investment the TOM rules the day.

I would think that JC is pretty accurate. Especially given yours is
practically brand new vs being a year or more old with more use. It
seems to me TOM is around high 2s unless exceptional condition.

That said, as more TSPPs start to come out the going rate on one that
is 1st or 2nd run seems to be around 3-3.2k. so you end up trying to
justify more for a newer machine and that may be a tough sell to many.

yes, AT LEAST $500 MORE.

tspp for a mint huo is $3500ish. a nice tom is $2800ish in my book, at
best.

not to mention, tspp is A HELLEVA LOT BETTER than tom and A LOT more
fun to play.

I don't like either one of them, but I've
had plenty more time to not like TOM more.

Keep the TSPP until something better comes
along...

Even though you expressed your opinion and didn't ask for mine...I will
give one.

I currently own both TSPP and TOM. They are very different but I think
that TSPP has a lot more going for it. Of course, the major wizard
mode is beyond me but the variety of modes, multiballs and mini-wizard
modes is so far beyond what TOM offers. And the stacking is cool with
the ability to start many modes and build upon that by adding time is
really cool and adds to strategy and challenge.

That said, TOM is less complex but has great flow. Very smooth game.

I have been playing the hell out of it. I just dont like the flow of
the game. I love my LOTR and believe me I have tried to like this game,
it just does not do it for me.

What is the condition of both machines?
(e.g. HUO TSPP, vs. off-route, re-import, unshopped TOM, or HU TOM?)

If they are both HUO, then it could be pretty close, with the edge
going to the Simpsons, for now.

The TSPP is in mint condition and I have been told the TOM is in great
condition.

get your $500 if you do that trade.

tom is a "B" title at best. definately NOT in the top 20 of all time.

you see tspp wizard mode as often as you see tom's. one games wiz mode
is very hard to reach, anothers just doesn't exist ;-)

(also, if you bought your tspp new, you are basically PAYING that much
for a nice tom if you make that trade.)

If the ToM is in really nice shape....it is a fair trade. Matt

do some research...if you tried to buy TSPP right now you will find it will
cost you at least $500 more than if you try to buy a TOM...

You have the set up with LOTR and TSPP. For the price of a MM you have
twice the play.
I have purchased TOMs for 1500 and less in the recent past and will
not replace it again. I will try to keep a TSPP. One of my top 5 all
time. TOM might make top 20 but then I don't own one. Of JPs games I
like it the least. Pretty game, hardy PF, decent shots but lacks the
challenge factor to keep me coming back. I play the TSPP daily.
What will be worth more? Who knows but TSPP is holding its value
better than any Williams/Bally game after the same amount of time.

Get the TOM. Don't listen to these guys. TOM is a nice magic themed
pin. I have a funny feeling TSPP is not going to stay hi in value.
Especially since Stern is in business and still making em. TOM is a
classic Williams pin. You know how well Williams pins hold their value.
Have you seen many sterns hold their value aside from TSPP? NOPE! Go
for it. You won't be disappointed.

TSPP is probably worth more, and I think is a more enjoyable game (to me)
than TOM. I had a mint CH restored TOM and sold it because the software
isn't too deep and the sounds are somewhat repetetive. "HAT MAGIC" I think
it is a fair trade to the guy with the TOM, but get , buy, trade for what
*you* like.

Really? Name a Stern pin that you have seen for 1500 bucks. NBAFB &
Congo & TOM can be had for 1500. WD,WH20, WCS94,JD,JM,Demo all sell
for way less than they cost.A blanket statement that "Williams games
hold their value"
is false. How much are RCTs? Seen many for 2k? I know a guy that bought
his for 2750 routed for three years and sold it for 2.5. I never saw
that from a Williams game when they were in business. TOM is a nice
game.( PM is a better magic themed game) TSPP is a great game. Not
perfect but what game is/was?
As far as Stern's remaking of games I think it would be the envy of
any manufacturing company to know that every one of your product was
sold before you made it. Unlike the W/B business model that had to
discount and force feed games to distributors. Stern has yet to cut the
nuts off any of the ops that bought their new games by discounting the
price to clear unwanted inventory. The price has gone up on most of the
new releases which also cuts the amount of depreciation the game sees
in the marketplace.l

If I was the owner of the ToM, then yes it would be a good trade. As others
have said, TSPP is worth more, so some cash should be involved unless the
ToM is in near flawless condition.

On a side note, how much time have you given TSPP? It took sometime for me
to warm up to it, but now I play it everyday while the others sit neglected.

The Trade is only worth it even up if the Theatre is HUO. Otherwise,
get some bucks on top of it.

Anyone who says that TSPP is going to significantly depreciate in value
is nuts. That game is going to sell for more that $3K used for many
years to come, unless it is an example that has fallen down an elevator
shaft. They can't make anymore TSPP, as I understand it, the license
has run out. Likewise, anyone who can but a decent unshopped TOM for
less than 2K at this point is getting a SUPER deal. A good example can
easily be sold for 2900-3500 recond....

If you sell a TSPP for less than $3K anytime soon, I have some good
Enron stock you can buy with your hard earned money.

That's a real good point.
