I'm building a computer for a friend, and have been out of the loop for a while here. I was just curious, is there a big difference between the processors. Mainly I cam concerned with the a64 2800 and the a64 3000. THe former is the newcastle, and the latter is the clawhammer.

Price difference leads me to believe that the clawhammer is better, just wonder how much and why.

Oh, and the clawhammer is for DTM notebooks it says, can I use it in a Soltek small factor mATX case?

Oh, and how do both of these processors compare to Intel Pentium 4/ 3.0E GHz 800MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache, Hyper Threading Technology?

thanks.

No, they are both equally crummy. Price doesn't matter. Buy the A64-3000. Never buy the slowest chip in ANY category.

Abit IS7 - 3.0C @ 3.6ghz - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - Yellowtail Merlot

Splendid
They are a little crummy when compared to a P4c@3.6.
The newcastle comes with a built-on heat spreader. Some people have had problems using the DTR chips on some mobos.
The DTR 3000+ is usually close in price to the A64 3200+ . That would be a better chip, duh. If you are stuck with one or the other, either should be fine.
