Hey is it true that AMD is going to go with the 939 socket for future upgrades? Because i was on newegg and they now have a athlon 64 3000 1.8ghz socket 939 for $190.00. Please someone check this out because if this is correct on the website I'm going with this cpu and a 939 mobo so it has more of a future upgrade. Please guys see if I'm seeing this right. And if it is would you agree it's better to go with this and forget the athlon 64 3000 socket 754.

Yes, they are sticking to s939 for their mainstream boards and the s939 athlon 3000+ isn't a typo. The new 90nm processor just came out not long ago, go for the s939 one. Over at anandtech they were able to overclock a 3000+ to 2.6ghz.

Wow, this is one heck of a good deal.

If I were to purchase now, I wouldn't give it any second thought. Just consider that you might be able to crank that 1.8Ghz A64 to 2.4, possibly 2.6Ghz..... woooow....

Does this meen i'm one of the fisrt people to notice this and put it on this forum. Or does it meen others have noticed it and just never wrote about it. This could be one of the most answered forums on here next to the guides and stuff. It just makes me tingle thinking about it. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. OH YEAH, OH YEAH, OH YEAH. sorry guys I couldn't resist. DId i use the right spelling "MEEN" right? I hope the price goes down a little before christmas when I build my computer. 939 socket is for the 64 FX chip right? Maybe the price of the 754 socket will go down more and maybe I'll still just go eith that.

Well Im pissed. I just bought a A64 3000+ and mobo. For $30 I couldve done it with a 939 setup instead. Damnt.

In reality 939 isnt any better than A64, just some faster cpus like the 1mb cache higher ends and the FX's. Its ok... I guess... 939 is overrated anyways and the 754s are the hottest things right now.

Be prepared for 939 to phase out before it even gets popular.

At stock speed, your 3000+ is faster than S939 3000+

They arent phasing out 939 any time soon. If socket 940 can get dual core cpus, then so can 939 so it will be here to stay. The only thing that would be phased out is agp and ddr.

I have this in mind. A64 scales very well with clock speed, and 10% clock speed always results in 5-9% performance increase, compared to 1-7% performance improvement/clock of 90nm A64s
