Hi,

Might be an odd question but I am trying to figure out what graphics card out of these two is better.

Nividia GeForce 8600 GTS - Desktop
Ati Mobil Radeon HD 5470 - Laptop

As you can see one is for a desktop and one is for a laptop. The 8600 is what I have in my home computer and I am trying to match performance on a laptop I am going to buy soon.

Thanks

Chad

Hello and welcome to the forums
HD 5470 performs like a 9600MGT( a little slower),so its slower(not a huge difference though)than a 8600GTS desktop

Thanks for the info. Would it be safe to assume the Ati Mobil Radeon HD 5650 would be better then the 8600?

I really like the GTX 285M in SLI mode on my X8100, its a nice card. I can't wait to test the GTX 480M.

Usually yes,but it depends on the models too.

Well you compare a high end Mobile (the 480M), a Desktop 285 still beats it

That's why i say it depends on the models, A desktop GTX 285 performs better than a GTX 480M whereas a HD 5650M performs better than a desktop 8600GTS.

Indeed but when it comes to high end (which is what I specialize in for my business) Desktop still outperforms the mobile desktop replacements. But I do agree with you on the point that you are making.

How about 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 565v. I am having trouble finding information about it.

Do you have any info as to how it compares to the 8600 gts?

Thanks again for the info.

That performs like HD 4670M AFAIK,so its a faster than a HD 5650M and therefor a little faster than a 8600GTS.

Hmm...where are you seeing the 4670m out performs the 5650m?

Thanks

Wait what? What are you saying yes to? I was asking where are you getting the information that 4670m out performs the 5650m? Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks

oops sorry, for a second i thought you wrote "Are you saying that 4670 is faster than 5650",
Check this
HD 4670M
http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-A [...] 881.0.html
HD 5650M
http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-M [...] 697.0.html
"In our benchmarks with the HD 5650, the GPU is performing on a level with the previous Mobility Radeon HD 4670 or the Nvidia GeForce GTS 250M (with DDR3 graphics memory). This means the performance is sufficient for high details in nearly all DirectX 10 games (only Crysis and GTA4 are not fluently playable in high details - see gaming list below). Upcoming and current DirectX 11 games (like DIRT2) may not run in full detail settings. That means some of the new DirectX 11 features (Tesselation e.g.) may not run fluently on this gaming graphics adapter. Currently the HD 5650 is a good gaming pick for well priced laptops with a 15 inch screen and a resolution of about 1366x768."
4670M is slightly faster(the difference isn't noticeable though)

Hi,

No problem and thanks for helping so far. I guess my confusion comes with these links
Notebook Check
Graphics Card Hierarchy Chart

In the first link it shows the 565v pretty much in a tie with the 4670. I also shows that the 5650 is a few steps above the two previous mentions.

The second link then goes to show that he 4650 is a few tiers below the 5650.

Am I mixing something up?

Thanks

Chad

Well notebookcheck sometimes make some inaccurate benchmakrs(because they use 2 different laptops to test), but HD 565v= HD 4670M,and they perform pretty much like a HD 5650M.

Hi,

Again thank you for all the help. So after reading everything over and over I am coming to the conclusion that the 4670, 565v, and 5650 all run about on the same level. Granted one might be a bit more efficient then the other. I also am really confused by this link. It states that it is based of GPU's speeds but when you look at the details and compare it seems to be out of order.

Thanks

Chad

I got another question :)

Do you feel as if there is a noticeable difference between the 5730M and the 565vM? Would I actually be able to tell a difference or would it be all in my head.

Thanks

Chad

Reply to chadsxe

Like i said, notebookchecks makes some inaccurate benchmarks.
As for 5730M,it should be about 10-15% faster than 565vm
