Videos not playing correctly

Not sure if this is in the right place, move if necessary...

Long story short, x86 Ultimate, plenty of power, laptop.

I have a bunch of various .avi, .mkv, and .mp4 movie files and have divx player /drivers installed. I would normally watch everything on this player with no problems until once I was notified about the Directshow filters, which I've installed and finally got working.

Then, something happened to where I would get "unsupported file type" errors and random playback issues like freezing upon start up with Divx, lagging during fast forward, and sometimes crashing.

Windows Media player works, but lacks all the filters and customization of Divx.

Any suggestions?

  1. I've actually tried to use that player, still would get errors like I stated in the OP.

If you have too many different video drivers installed, could that cause an issue?

From what I've read, divx and Directshow should be all anyone needs to pay avi, mp4, and mkv, right?
