While they may look awesome, what about gameplay of clearcoated games?

Is it at all like the original? I've never played one but would
imagine it would be quite a bit faster.

Original games were clearcoated.

play it 100 times and gameplay calms down. It will be insane for a
while but just play it more. The people who go off about it don't own
one.

I have an AFM where the lock ramp would send the ball into the shooter
lane. Yes it pissed me off for a bit but now it plays great. If you
cant handle this just novus it.

Makes the game very fast. A properly "tweaked" game with clearcoat will make
it near impossible to play - seriously, my E*BD with NOS clearcoated
playfield IS the toughest game I own. It is slick as it possibly can be,
VERY difficult.

I bought myself a 72 Fireball for my own grad present a few years back. I
always wanted one and a deal had come up on one I could afford. After grad I
set it up and got it running. It was a dog. Slow and boring, I wasn't
feeling it at all. Then I stripped the playfield down, all the way down, and
sanded out any spots that were worn to the wood. I airbrushed them and
filled them until they vanished. I repainted all the white on the playfield
a bright titanium white. Then I clearcoated and buffed and polished untill I
had that famous popping glassy look that we all know. This was a masive
undertaking but the end result was a game that looked like it was new. The
game play was lightning fast. The only drawback was that the increased speed
broke the flipper bats. The plastic on them was over 30 years old anyways...
Now I also have a Wizard sitting opposite the Fireball. I have done nothing
to the Wizard. The gameplay is slow and boring, I'm not feeling it at all.

I presume that if a game is toooo fast, one could reduce its incline to
compensate?

Is there a good company to get a playfield clearcoated? I've read
about doing it on your own but would rather pay someon to do it for me
rather than making my hard to find playfield useles if i mess it up.

www.playfieldrenovations.com
bill davis and chris hutchens.

think those are your choices.

i've had 5 cleared with PF renovations and 1 with bill davis and both do
superb and nearly equal jobs with the clearcoat. i think PF renovations
wins out on art replacement as Chris is a God!

I will certainly agree in Chris' case. His E*BD is the fastest I've
played, and also likely the best looking. Although Dan Nix's is right up
there, too. Dan's has a clearcoated NOS playfield as well.

Just because that NOS playfield has survived 15 years of storage just
fine doesn't mean that it will last 5 minutes of gameplay. A thick
clearcoat using another type of chemical is absolutely essential to
perserving it!

Again, Fred has me shaking my head. Thanks for that, it'll help get rid of
some of the dust that's collected there today...;> ).

That may be true, but the question was about
gameplay. That would be different, (ruined).
