Googled for this but the results are dominated by system 80 problems....

I have finally gotten my Hulk machine up and running, except that I only get
tones for 1000 points and 10 points, but no 100 point tones. I swapped out
the sound board and I got the same result.

Any and all suggestions welcome.

Either a bad connection or a failed driver transistor on the
lamp/solenoid board. Assuming two different sound boards had the same
problem in the same game.

yeah, after I posted I thought, duh, bad connection is the first choice.
After all, it is a system 1. The board is a new PiX4 board, so it better
not be a failed driver ;). Also, RTFM applies, there is a diagnostic button
on the sound card. Too late in my house to be checking sounds, will try
again tomorrow.

why not use the board's built in sound for the tones?

as I understand it, the X4 would emulate the early boards, but the later
sound boards had more complex sounds that it does not do.

Yes, you are correct about that.
