Moore's law never existed, so it can't die. Something like "Moore's Prediction" existed, though

To begin with, it's just a nickname for Moore's Observation/Hypothesis. And it had to end some time. But the funny thing is, "Moore's Law" actually concerns the number of transistors, not the speed. Intel is releasing CPU's with more CACHE which significantly increases the number of transistors, and next year Intel is releasing dual-core processors with 1MB cache PER UNIT, so you'd actually have to account for those developments before claiming "It's over".

I knew that, but that name is the name used by everyone and hence i use it.

It existed very much. Observation he made, named as Moores Law or dubbed as Moores Law. Dont tell me u have been saying 'Moores Prediction' all the time  Even books/papers use that name.
Oh by the way, Newtons Laws were all observations (can you prove me the 1st Law of motion)
So how abt calling them Newtons Observation no. 1

Yes, but the fact that it refers to the number of transistors, not the speed, would seem to show the release of dual core processors follow that idea better than the release of high speed processors.

I said the exact same thing as you in an old thread.

Oh, well I'm just saying that it looks like, from the article you linked to, they are refering to the lack of speed increase as the end to "Moore's Law", when in reality transistor count is still increasing. But it obviously won't do that forever.

That is, unless we can find a way to produce portable pocket black holes that can send out data to place our CPUs into. But then we'd just have an argument over whether Moore's Law applies directly to real space or if relative space is close enough, and no one would be any happier.

Ah, but black holes require PHYSICS, and any physicist would point to the fact that "moore's law" isn't a law and therefor doesn't apply to physics, so you'd never get your portable pocket black hole

Hmm, if Intel did absolutely nothing except go 2, 4, then 8 core, they could double transistors easily for the next 5 years...10 years doesn't sound like such a bad estimate...

I'm just your average habitual smiler =D

imagine this computer:

dual proccessor
dual core in each processor
HT in each core
software utlizing those 8 logical processors.

and play games on it.

Are you pondering what I'm pondering?

With a computer like that, why play games? We should try to take over the world!
