I'm just curious what was the "middle" price or midranged cpu about 1 year, 2 years, and three years ago? I guess i'm just wondering once I build my computer with the athlon 64 3000 and mobo(socket 754) How long with cpu and video card upgrades and everything a cycle of cpu's will last. I just want to compare what cpu's were out back then and compare them with the system requirements to play games now. I hope i explained in words what my mind was thinking out loud. Thanks.

Dude everything move soo fast in the I.T. industry. Your hardware is never top on the line. If you do buy the fastest and greatest hardware out there. Then your hardware will be the best, fastest, and greatest for probably three months. Never try to be bleeding edge unless you could are less about your cash. Why do people go out and buy a 2000 dollar computer to surf the interent and read e-mail. I really have no clue.

A year ago, the A64 3000+ was released, a year before that, thr xp2800, and in 2K1 the 1900+. You can probably expect things to slow a little more, for the next year or two.

Cool thinks for the info dude. as long as you upgrade your video card, You can still play all the games that are out now with a 1900 xp. Isn't doom 3 the most power hungry cpu out right now and all you need is a 1500 xp.

A year ago, the midrange CPU would have been a P4 2.60GHz (roughly XP2800+). A year earlier the P4 2.4B (roughly equal to XP2400+). 3 years ago, a P4 1.6GHz (roughly, Athlon 1200). 4 years ago, PIII 866 (or Athlon 850). You can see how things are slowing down quickly!

I'm still using my Radeon 9000 (non-Pro). God knows when I will upgrade my video card again
