Hi,

I have a few questions about the PC-DL Deluxe motherboard.

1. Are 3.2GHz and 3.6GHz Xeons With 1MB Cash and 800MHz FSB compatible with this motherboard? I thought maybe the 800mhz fsb xeons would just run at 533fsb speed when installed in this motherboard.

2. Can I use PC3200(DDR400) and faster ram with this motherboard? The specs on the motherboard say it supports "Dual-DDR333" ram but in a review I read they did some overclocking with this board and used PC3200(DDR400).

3. Can I just have one processor in the motherboard or do I need both cpu sockets
filled. Cuzz I was thinking I could just buy one cpu for now and get the second one when
I have more money.

Well, I found this specification page at Asus site:

http://www.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=PC-DL Deluxe&langs=01

According to that page it only supports max of 3.06Ghz 512KB Xeons.

And max speed of DDR is 333, but DDR400 would work with it at lower speed I believe, I'm not 100% certain.

It will be best for you to contact Asus and ask them about this board.

OK, ok, I waited for a specialist to help you, none did, so now you'll hear from a generalist...

Tom's test of the PC-DL showed it would only go to a maximum of 150MHz FSB. No higher options in BIOS.

Asus might have updated their BIOS, but their normal list of BIOS revision specifics (a text file) is not to be found on their FTP's, so it's almost like they don't want you to know what improvements are to be found with the BIOS updats.

It's also likely that the board was simply designed for slower bus speed XEONs because Intel had not announced 800 bus XEONs and was pretending like they'd not happen on the current socket.

So unless Asus publishes documentation that says otherwise, I'd have to say it's not likely the PC-DL will ever support 800 bus Xeons.

Another generalist throws his 2c in.
The pc3200 will work fine at pc2700 speeds.
If you try to run a 3.6ghz chip @ 533/133 fsb, you will have a 2.4ghz chip.
It will not be able to use EMT64, because the chipset doesn't support it.
In other words, a totally bad idea.

Thanks for the replies.

Well I did email Asus twice and they haven't responded to my emails...So I guess they don't want to answer my question? I know people have been doing mods to their pc-dl motherboards increasing the fsb all the way to 250(800mhz).

hmm just out of curiosity why would 3.6ghz chip be like a 3.4 on this board? People have overclocked their xeons from 2.6ghz to 3.5 and beyond

I guess I will just stick with a 3.06ghz(533) xeon. :(
