I have Asus M/B P5KPL-VM which supports 3gb ram, but only allows 2gb while I have 4gb installed. Would I have to update my Bios, since it is original from 2008? thanks

A 64 bit OS would help.

no it how the mb is set up. some of the main ram is being used for the video and some of the ram is used do to intel mb design. even newer mb with 4g installed about 3.2g are useable. as long as your system is stable leave it alone.flashing the bios on a working system could end up bricking the mb.

My O/S is Windows 7 Ultimate 64 BIT. Intel 2.66 Duo. Maybe I best leave it alone or buy another M/B with more ram support and chip

Do you have 4 1gb sticks or is it 2 2gb or something like that?

2 - 2gb installed. I've switched them around and even left 1 stick out to see if one was dead. Both sticks fired up showing 2gb each. When I add the second stick, it still shows only 2gb. I thought maybe one terminal was dead, but computer starts with 1 stick in either terminal. I've eliminated and know that both sticks work and both terminals work. I'm at a total loss and have played around with the setup, but there's nothing regarding ram on this board or I didn't find it.

it an old ram bug with some mb. some mb with 2 sided ram will only read 1/2 the ram. before you kill yourself trying to fix the issue check the ram guild for the mb and see if your ram on it. if not shoot an email to mb and ram vendor asking if this ram been tested in this mb. you may have to ask the ram vendor to swap out ram stick or find some that on the ram guild.
